Description

When you set them flat, they produce a solid bass response without any vibration. When you push them within their limits, without an additional subwoofer, you don’t find any distortion or sonic wonkiness.

EDIT If you are looking for a powered version, polypeptide147 was pretty happy with the YU4 https://www.reddit.com/r/BudgetAudiophile/comments/bfk2zm/kanto_yu4_review/ Building a starter system used to follow a traditional pattern that involved establishing a budget and dividing it roughly equally between source, amp and loudspeaker. Fast forward to the present day and things are rather different. You can build a system based on the ‘classic’ way of doing things, but as the concept of a piece of source equipment becomes increasingly intangible there are numerous speaker systems with built-in amplification and wireless music streaming capabilities. The other issue for the Kanto is the Bluetooth implementation. In recent years, we’ve become used to this being a reliably stable wireless connection that’s capable of delivering decent sound quality, but the YU6 feels a little underwhelming. It is reluctant to connect to both an Essential PH-1 and iPad Pro, and the performance is periodically affected by stutters and drop outs. I’m not sure why this is the case, but reboots and re-pairing don’t seem to completely eliminate it, which is disappointing given expectations with this kind of connectivity. The remote adds to functionality with bass, treble, and balance controls. Each of those controls includes up, down, and reset buttons—so if you get confused about the settings, you can return to their midpoints. That’s a nice touch. Each input gets a separate button, so you can directly select any source without cycling through others. Additional controls include power, volume, mute, and three transport keys. Controls are intelligently organized by size, shape, and layout. It’s a good remote. Someone put some thought into it.Like any Kanto speakers we reviewed in the past, we were very impressed with the overall sound quality. Eventually I will try these on my work office location (much better for being able to place them, as well as my main living room setting. I also will play with adding in a subwoofer as well as turning on the equalizer. More than that, impossibly good designs from some companies out there has actually resulted in a range of pretty decent powered speaker performers, on a sonic level. So how do the YU4 designs fare? There can be a few issues around getting Bluetooth devices paired correctly. You might find that it takes a few attempts to get this set up but overall it shouldn’t be too difficult.

Overall, I like them. I would call these fun speakers, that can put out the bass (compared to my other 4" speakers. They are easy to fit on a tight desk, and are good with a variety of music styles. Overall... There was still much to like, though. Because the sonic frequencies were levered up a tad, the detail was plentiful, fast, agile and certainly dextrous. The music from the YU4s could resemble a hummingbird in action. Such was the almost athletic nature of their performance. Before we begin the sound tests, I must also report that I ran all of the tests with the tone controls disabled. Engaging them results in all frequencies sounding somehow false and plastic. SOUND QUALITY This is standard with Kanto speakers and products. 2 years is pretty good and while some speakers from other manufacturers may give you a longer warranty, the 24 months from Kanto isn’t bad at all. How do the Kanto YU6 speakers perform? This is another feature brought over from the YU5’s, and we are glad that the remote control has stayed in the YU6’s.A mono subwoofer output is available to boost the low-end frequencies should you so desire and there’s also a USB-A port that can charge a phone or tablet or a piece of USB connected source equipment – Yamaha’s WXAD-10 MusicCast network player ( HFC 442) or Chromecast Audio’s network player ( HFC 443) being ideal candidates. In the treble section, these bookshelf speakers have very good energy. It is good for those who are a little more treble sensitive. You will feel a slight metallic tone to the highs sometimes but on the whole, it is smoother and refined with fine details.
