If you are using an aerial to watch the inbuilt Freeview channels, change the input source to Digital or DTV to view these channels. While the Toshiba TV brand might no longer be the truly Japanese powerhouse it once was, its latest owners are still slowly but surely making it a significant player in the European TV marketplace again. Remember to unpair or switch off any other connected audio device before trying to connect a new Bluetooth product.

Colours can be bold and aggressive in the way they’re depicted, with colours popping off the screen. A soundbar isn't a necessity for this TV but it would greatly improve its lacklustre audio performance – if you have the space for one in your home cinema setup you absolutely should add one. related feature the 50UK3163DB’s HDMIs do support is automatic low latency mode switching, so that the TV can activate its low input lag game mode when a game source is detected.

Its speakers are powerful and dynamic enough, for instance, to deliver an expansive sound capable of shifting up and down a few gears quite convincingly during the ebb and flow of a powerful action scene. The 50UK3163DB’s HDR efforts aren’t the only way it makes an unexpected mark on the affordable TV world, either.

The 50UK3163DB’s claimed contrast ratio of 5,000:1 is reasonably promising by affordable LED TV standards, though the set’s measured peak brightness (taken on a white HDR window covering 10% of the screen) of 336 nits doesn’t promise a particularly exciting HDR performance. Whites can look good – such as those in the scene in Blade Runner 2049, where Sylvia Hoeks’ Luv infiltrates a police station. And when it comes to Dolby Vision, there are two choices: Dolby Vision Bright and Dolby Vision Dark.If you are aware of a number of channels that are not being received it is likely that the aerial is not receiving strong enough signals to allow reception of these channels. Toshiba has used Onkyo to tune its speaker system of two down-firing drivers plus a sub, powered by a total of 42W of amplification. Provided, anyway, that you keep the set’s motion processing and noise reduction systems set to low or turned off entirely. Our TRU picture technology provides smooth, upscaled and more detailed viewing whatever you’re watching. Even better, Toshiba has managed to back up the 50UK3163DB’s surprisingly rich feature count with an impressively aggressive performance that leaves many budget rivals looking boring by comparison, even if it's not going to trouble the most premium sets in our list of the best TVs.

Brightness is compromised with all three options, although Dynamic produces the best black performance at the cost of detail. The sound also projects forward and sideways from the screen quite effectively, avoiding that feeling so often heard with built-in TV audio systems that sound only seems to exist behind the screen. The night-time scenes are packed with deep, moody blacks, while daytime scenes take advantage of vibrant yellows, oranges and greens.

The UL5A63DB doesn’t look any different from the 55U7763DB tested by Trusted Reviews a few years back. The ability to play audio/video files from the network is unreliable: the "audio video sharing" option often disappears from the list of sources, even though it is enabled in settings. The fighting becomes a smear of arms and legs lit up by the odd laser blast that comes from places too hard to decipher.

Packed full of the latest technologies, the Toshiba UK3C 4K HDR TV is the perfect centrepiece for your living room. It has a purposefully grainy look to evoke a 1960s aesthetic and it takes a fair amount of work to stop that grain from dancing about. However, a switch to the Dolby Vision version helps for a more refined and controlled HDR performance. While the 50UK3163DB isn’t anything special when it comes to handling dark images, it sure stands out with the intensity it brings to both bright parts of dark scenes, and full-screen bright HDR content. The scene where Steve Rogers infiltrates the Lumerian Star is rendered too dim to spot any shadow detail or detail in general. However, that highlights the feeling the UK31 isn’t a notable step forward in the picture department.
