We then have her flourishing relationships with Sylvie and Nik set against her growing worry over jealous Angelica. Just to start, I'm glad I didn't read the synopsis before I read this as it meant more mystery throughout the less thrilling parts of the story so my suggestion, if you're a Watson fan, is to go in blind.

I was able to figure out who the "bad" players were in the book relatively quickly, although there were a couple of people who surprised me, and I didn't quite have the entire plot figured out. From fast friendships, courtships, and many glasses of wine, Alice is thrown into a world that is both alluring and terrifying. Even when she produced what she described as 'a winter landscape for European cheeses', sprigged with holly and a frosty snow scene, I failed to get my fix.

I'll defo be recommending this one and already looking forward to seeing what the author comes up with next. Wanting to leave everything behind her and to escape her troubles, she flees to the Greek island of Corfu. As the chilly nights roll in, this book will give you a slice of summer as Alice tells her tale of Corfu. In this town there are women who have disappeared and Alice has become somewhat obsessed with the posters she sees of the missing women. Just writing down those recipes reminded me of Mum in her kitchen- the soft, wobbly fold of flour into butter, the grit of sugar, the heady fragrance of chocolate, sweet vanilla and the warmth of ginger.

Alice goes to Corfu following an incident with her ex husband and quickly falls for Nik, a handsome vineyard owner. It doesn’t matter, though, what matters is Nik – the handsome man waiting at the altar who loves me so much. I thought that Alice was obsessive, had addictive personality, was irresponsible and apparently oblivious to red flags because they were being thrown up all over this book. Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. After an altercation with her ex husband and his girlfriend which ended poorly, (with her ex badly injured) Alice decides to escape to the Greek Island of Corfu in hopes of avoiding the aftermath and starting her life over. Working as a television producer, Stella Weston feels that she has been put out to pasture on a religious gardening programme. Alcohol was her medication of choice to deal with distresses of infertility as well as some major problems during her marriage.

Alice is determined to prove that she can make her own decisions in life even if that means staying in picturesque Greece. Her hobby is eating cake while watching diet and exercise programmes from the sofa, a skill she’s perfected after many years of practice.I'll definitely check out more of Sue Watson's work after both this and The Nursery were enjoyable for me.
