About this deal

Carmel has lost her husband to a younger woman, has four children, and has lost her self esteem and confidence. To my absolute delight, the publishers sent me an early copy for review so it became THE book for me to read. Overall, this one is a bit of a departure for Liane Moriarty, but her signature style is etched all through the novel.

The Love, Actually format of storytelling where a movie/book is telling separate stories that only intersect tangentially works just fine. Rich, young couple Ben (Melvin Gregg) and Jessica (Samara Weaving) head to Tranquillum House to mend their relationship after their recent fortune caused it to deteriorate, and while Weaving shines as the social-media obsessed and vain Jessica, the character isn't as botoxed as she's described in the book. You wait years for a miniseries about rich Americans pitching up at a luxury retreat to try to find bliss, then two turn up at once. Little do they expect Masha’s methods to become as manipulative and downright dangerous as they soon turn out to be, after being taken in by her intense but seemingly caring approach. Like Big Little Lies before it, Nine Perfect Strangers is a Kidman vehicle based on a Liane Moriarty bestseller and directed by David E Kelley. Liane Moriarty has a keen grasp of the nuances that lie in between the interactions people have with each other, and tries hard to pry at the less obvious emotions or gradations that color people’s emotions. Her life is also in danger and she gets in touch with Josh who knew Nick to understand what could have led to his murder.

While the plot is just this side of deranged, the story is a compulsive read, perhaps a little overlong, but otherwise compelling and highly engrossing! I also liked that Sophie became a stronger woman with a backbone and I was really happy with her and Josh. hoping these ten days will be fulfilling- an important path taken to understanding and healing themselves and finding peace.

It was so boring and also claustrophobic at the same time, giving me a sense of desperation for these people to just be set free already. The ongoing mystery throughout Prime Video's Nine Perfect Strangers revolves around Masha, who reveals in episode one that she was shot by an unknown attacker when working in a high-pressured job in the city and subsequently saved by Yao ( Manny Jacinto), who was a paramedic at the time. They are a zany group of people, flawed of course, some dealing with deeper issues than others, but all of them are so human and real. One of the reasons I rounded up to 5 stars is because I know I’ll remember the plotline for a long while (memory longevity factors into my rating). Ben let’s us know that the more work she had done on her face and body the less secure Jessica was about herself.
