They have been repeated so often and so much that they become permanently lodged in our collective consciousness, repeated by children generation after generation with thorough enjoyment, while remaining free of any significance or meaning beyond their own internal repetitions and patterns. A great aspect of this book is how much plot and how much information is packed into this simple, short book. It's too bad that she doesn't finish the story with more bite, as Papa Bear is clearly more than a match for the silly little milkmaid. While the climax is at the very end when the bears and goldilocks encounter each other and she runs away. I was a bit rusty on the storyline, but that fact stayed with me throughout the many years that it has been since I last read the story.

She finds the porridge and decides to try all three but baby bear's porridge is 'just right' she then decides to sit in the chairs and finds mummy and daddy bears chairs too uncomfortable and likes baby bear's chair but breaks it. The story starts off as many traditional stories do in the setting of a nondescript wood on the edge of some village. I have never actually read the story till now and I find it cute but I think I prefer being told it naturally without a book. My favorite illustration is of Goldilocks in Baby Bear's bed in the quintessential child's room chaos of heaped and scattered bats, toys, books, and clothes.However, the plot, language and phrasing will be very familiar to those who've read any of a number of versions. Yet again Daddy Bear's is excessively hard, Mom Bear's is excessively delicate, yet Child Bear's is perfect. James Marshall’s illustrations are truly colorful and hilarious making it a true recipient of the prestigious Caldecott Honor Award. Most of the students in the class have probably encountered the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears before.
