Hawkridge Botanical Gins – Exquisitely Decadent Craft Gin

Their Limited Edition Sloe Gin is dry, rich and intense, featuring hand-picked sloes from the hedgerows of West Sussex. We tasted three different gins to decide on our base and all chose the second one for its versatility, flavours and freshness. Wrekin Spirit Distillery in Shropshire use hand-picked sloes from the hedges on their farm that surrounds the distillery.

This Swiss Sloe Gin is based on thefamily's Dry Gin recipe together with hand-picked sloes and water from the Studer Distillery's own spring. Its complex and well-balanced flavour comes through beautiful forward notes of rich citrus, fragrant herbs and honey followed by a lasting floral note. We were looking for and exceptional, bespoke gin that used hand-picked botanicals sourced from our back yard. We worked closely with the team at Hawkridge Distillers to create a totally unique craft gin using botanicals sourced directly from our own vegetable garden.

I have worked with and watched the revolution of this business since it’s inception and as one of their trial members I have been delighted with the quality, flavour and design of every gin they have produced, so much so I commissioned them to produce a gin for my business. Our new Hawkridge London Dry Victorian Aphrodisiac Blend is a beautiful Victorian-era-inspired gin like no other. We created a bespoke and beautiful gin – Ravenglass Limited Edition, which has been so well received and has helped raise vital funds for the organisation too. We strain these botanicals and add the resulting liquid to the still where our juniper, coriander and citrus are also soaking before the distillation starts.Our signature Hawkridge London Dry Gin is an embodiment of Victorian opulence, extravagance and discovery, laced with the ‘Language of the Flowers’, used by Victorians to express feelings of love and friendship.

The sloes are then steeped with their Original Dry Gin for over 3 months for an enticing colour and flavour.I have been purchasing gins from Hawkridge since they started and consider myself a bit of a gin aficionado. Since launching in 2002, Sloemotion Distillery has gone on to create such a wonderful range of gins, spirits and liqueurs, but Sloe Gin is where it all began. Elephant Sloe Gin has a comparatively low sugar content and a high ABV, making it ideal for cocktails as well as enjoying neat. In the cold Winter months it is hard to beat a sip of warming, fruity Sloe Gin, whether as a Digestif, with Prosecco at a party, or straight from the hip flask on a country walk.

There are no industrial rectifying columns here and nothing is chill-filtered meaning all the flavour from the botanical extracts and essential oils meticulously selected by Jacob remain pure, creating premium-quality, artisan spirits. On the palate it is zingy and zesty with citrus, again combining with piney juniper and underlying earthiness. Berkshire Botanical's gins are inspired by the flora and fauna of the Yattendon Estate, and their Sloe Gin is bold, vibrant and fruity - perfect for the cold winter months.The Hartingowe Gin team in Germany hand-pick sloes from the Harz Mountains, which have a particularly fruity and aromatic character.
