I don’t think so. After Josie flees the scene of whatever happened, Alix repeatedly asks Josie if Erin is okay and Josie says she is. Who Killed Nathan in None of This is True? While I can’t agree that Josie didn’t do anything wrong, reading your comments has made me see that some of what she says (or thinks) is true. Overall, this is an intense and suspenseful read that delivers on the thrills. For the rest, it boils down to the reader’s ability and/or willingness to ignore certain aspects of the story. When Alix invites Josie into her home to record a podcast about Josie’s life, all signs are pointing to it not ending well. Josie is downright creepy, and Alix, being a typical Jewell character, ignores her screaming gut instinct to turn Josie away. I guess for Alix, the promise of a viral podcast outweighs all else. Josie tells Alix she is planning “big changes.” Did that mean ditching her current family? If that was what she meant, she could just run off and leave Erin with Walter. By killing Walter, she’s the only caretaker left for Erin.

I had a sense of panic from the beginning when the "birthday twins" Alix and Josie unexpectantly meet. The story became darker than dark the further I read. It was quite unputdownable and going places that gave me anxiety. I think Alix felt it too, I wanted to shake her!! Tell her to just R-U-N 🏃‍♂️ I was on board with Josie killing Brooke but based on your comments I now think it might have been both Walter and Josie together. As the words leave her mouth, Josie feels the gnawing sense of grief that she has experienced for most of her life rush through her. She’s never found anything to pin the feeling to before; she never knew what it meant. But now she knows what it means.Lisa Jewel puts the D in dysfunction. I can always count on her for a disturbing domestic suspense thriller, and I had high hopes for None of This is True. But I’m not sure there is enough evidence to say that Walter was either sleeping with Brooke or abusing Erin. More on my theories on that below. Who Killed Brooke in None of This Is True?

I genuinely liked the story, and I think Jewell does a great job keeping the reader pulled into the story. She scattered secrets like candy pieces, which I happily gobbled up along the way, using a nice mix of detail from Josie herself, interviews with people from her past, her mother and others to provide variety and intrigue. The story provoked all my feelings, giving me shades of My Dark Vanessa and Greenwich Park, among other books. Then there was a layer of psychotherapeutic introspection that could have been clumsy but wasn’t for me. It added to the pleasure of the read. In my opinion, Josie’s pattern is to become fixated on people (like Walter, Alix, maybe Brooke) and then get jealous of people who get in the way of her “relationships.”It took me awhile to sort out my thoughts on this one, as it was not quite what I expected, but that isn’t a bad thing. I buddy read this with my sister Irina, and part of the reason I love reading the same book as a friend or friends is due to the fact that you can really hash out your book review content ahead of time. We both ended up with similar feelings on None of This Is True, and foremost agreed that it was a compulsive, must read suspense tale. Celebrating her 45th birthday at her local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summers crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her 45th birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins.

Unable to resist temptation to dig into Josie's life, Alix accepts her offer and begins to record the podcast, inviting Josie to her home studio for interview sessions. Even though Alix finds Josie's vibe unsettling, she admits there's something fascinating about her. She is intrigued. LJ: I had no idea when I started writing the book what Josie was going to unveil. I didn’t know what her story was going to be. I just knew that I was going to have to come to my computer every day and write a chapter or write 1,000 words, and that was going to move the plot along, and that was going to help me find out more about what it was that Josie really wanted to talk to Alix about. Because the initial moment of connection is Josie basically saying to Alix, “I need to talk to you about my life.” I didn’t know what Josie’s life was. I just knew she had this husband, a bit older than her, sitting by the window staring at his laptop, and a kid in a room gaming. Some people could read the ending to be ambiguous or open; a lot of people have read it as I intended it to be — not ambiguous or open — which is Josie finally confronting the truth in her head of what actually happened. But I didn’t work out until a long time after I’d written the book precisely what Josie was hiding, and what was true and what wasn’t. And then to realize, weeks after writing the book, that it was all in there. I put it all in there without really knowing what it was while I was writing it.

Customer reviews

I read this in day which I am deliberately not doing any more, because this was such a captivating read and a great book overall. When Josie proposes she be a guest on Alix's podcast to tell the story of her life, Alix is curious about this strange woman. Josie lets Alix into her life and history through the podcast and Alix, in turn, gradually lets Josie into her life too. But the more Alix comes to know Josie and her past, the more she worries she's made a terrible mistake. so we know I loved it… I am going to bet you will too!! Have you read this? THOUGHTS??? Is this on your list??? What is your favorite @lisajewelluk book? That said, this game of cat and mouse was such a deviously delightful read that I can’t help but highly recommend it for your 2022 TBR. While not my favorite Lisa Jewell novel, it is an immensely enjoyable read that will be a fantastic book club choice, brimming with copious discussion material.

In one of her interviews with Alix, Josie does reference the “clean break” that one of Alix’s podcast guests discusses. The guest says death can be a clean break. Special thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for sharing this brilliant novels of digital copy in exchange my honest thoughts.Right off the bat, I was intrigued and I felt like I was being misdirected in some way. The path the story took, I was never quite sure who I could trust.
