Beyond that bullshit there were references to some modern things that jarred me and lifted me right out of the setting. Caldris mentions the concept of baby trapping as if that’s a concept that exists in a supposedly medieval world. There are also a few more of certain supporting characters that added a lot to the story and I look forward to seeing how they will play into the overall story in the upcoming books. This book was like A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire had a baby with A Ruin of Roses, but not in a good way because all the characters and plot points felt recycled from one or the other of those two stories. One of the worst parts is he NEVER tried to see it from her point of view. He’s right, she’s wrong, she needs to just accept this thing she’s been terrified of. Oh and his so called bros and members of the Wild Hunt? Also abusive bastards. The leader, Holt, is just so upset that Estrella can’t just accept the bond and stop being so selfish “don’t you know this will help out in the realm you haven’t ever existed in and have no ties to?” Asshole. Caelum acting like an adoring fan most of the time when it came to Estella was adorable.
