About this deal

Thanks, @thomasnelson #netgalley for the complimentary e copy of #thesummerhouse. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. De Villa zat goed in elkaar, was logisch en duidelijk en wist met bovenal te boeien en vast te houden. Met een mooie 4 sterren score heb ik het jaar dus meteen goed ingezet! Thanks to Keri Beevis,Rachel’s Random Resources, Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review* The story is told from many points of view, some of them unknown characters. This doesn't always work, although some do, but a lot of the revelations are irrelevant and merely 'filler'.

The Summer Book is as ‘A masterpiece’: why Tove Jansson’s The Summer Book is as

The author has perfectly been spot on with her lay out of the characters for readers to bring them all together in what I see as a unique harrowing story, I could not put it down as we learn the truth of what happened all those years ago there are plenty of twists as we learn the truth, and I love a twisty book coming from twisty minds of killers. If you know this author's work and have enjoyed it, you will not be disappointed in THE SUMMER HOUSE as you become involved in the lives of the characters and feel the emotions they are experiencing. 5/5 Lana and Ollie have returned to the Mead House after the passing of their grandmother. Neither one wanted to return after the brutal murder of their sister, but they needed to clean out the house before putting it up for sale. While cleaning, Lana found her sister's hidden journal. Inside held secrets and maybe even answers to who was truly behind her murder. Camille Hamilton and her twin brother and sister live with their Grandmother, Kitty, in beautiful Mead House, and here begins the story in 2005… One night Camille is in the Summer House, when her innocent life is cruelly taken away. Paige, the oldest, arrives with her two teenagers and husband, David. From first glance, it’s easy to see, this couple is going through the dreaded down cycle every relationship faces, at some point. Are they strong enough to make it through?I was straight away on the defence and wondered who was trustworthy, and what was the motive for Camille’s murder? Yes, I went to visit friends in Hampshire who have the most beautiful Jacobean house, set in spectacular grounds. I have always loved houses, especially old ones and I adore those summer houses built on hills or beside lakes, they’re very romantic. I used the house but made it my own as the real one is not positioned by a lake nor does it have a hill with an ornamental summer house (folly) on the top. The houses in my novels are characters too! I understand the author needed the characters for red herrings and was especially creative with the "G" initials to throw you off. To ensure that justice is done, the Army sends Major Jeremiah Cook, a veteran and former NYPD cop, to investigate. But the major and his elite team arrive in sweltering Georgia with no idea their grim jobs will be made exponentially more challenging by local law enforcement, who rests the Army’s intrusion and stonewall them at every turn. I received an ARC version of this book and leave this review of my own accord. Thanks Boldwood and NetGalley.

There is a chair, a blindfold, a red scarf, a heart pendant with a ribbon, and another note. She fears they are going to cross the line. Realization follows; she is strangled and murdered. Her former boyfriend, Sebastian, is charged and in prison. A group of people in a once-historic Georgia home have been brutally murdered. The county sheriff says all evidence points to a team of Army Rangers and she's determined to get them prosecuted and tried for the crime. A team of Army investigators, led by Jeremiah Cook are sent in to make sure all proceedings are being handled in a just and fair manor. The small town mentality of the community doesn't take kindly to the outsiders. Things get difficult and downright dangerous for the team as they get closer to the truth. Other titles I've written include Trust No One, Every Little Breath, The People Next Door, With Friends Like These, M for Murder and D for Dead. Was this secret lover responsible for Camille’s murder? Lana is left with more questions than answers, so the race is on towards the truth.

Lily Bishop wakes up one morning to find a good-bye note and divorce papers from her husband on the kitchen counter. Having moved to Alabama for his job only weeks before, Lily is devastated, but a flyer at the grocery store for a hair stylist position in a local retirement community provides a refuge while she contemplates her next steps. Major Jeremiah Cook, an injured veteran and MP, is called in to investigate along with his team. It doesn't take them long to realize things are not adding up. This book centers around the military so if that is not your thing pass this book by. The Summer House weaves Lauren K. Denton’s inviting Southern charm around a woman’s journey to find herself. The novel stresses the necessity of forgiveness. Why did you want to emphasize this theme in The Woman from Paris? Do you find it easy to practice forgiveness in your own life? Flossy also had another reason to get the family together, but she and Richard couldn't bring themselves to tell their children even though they knew they had to sooner than later.

Is Lana safe in her hometown, or is the killer still on the lose? So many questions with this book! As Cook and his team struggle to put together pieces of evidence that just won't fit, powerful forces rally against them to try to ensure that damning secrets are buried along with the victims. The Summer House’ was initially built for pleasant relaxing days but had turned into a den of obsession and lust…..and murder…..the culprit had been found and everyone, although it was difficult, had tried to carry on with their lives….however when they are all re united again it seems none of them has forgiven or forgotten and things are not as clear cut as they may have seemed Lana finds her sisters diary and questions her past decisions. She helped put away the boy who murdered her sister. He was the brother of her ex-boyfriend. The Summer House is a fun loving, feel good, summertime escape. It’s southern coastal setting is located on an island in the small retirement community of Safe Harbor. Ms Danton’s writing is so descriptive and visual she literally transported me to the Alabama shores—my senses could see the pelicans, hear the waves and taste the salt in the gulf. Nana Kitty: Grandmother of the three and owner of Mead House and The Summer House - Dead (from a fall. Accidental or pushed)?

Flash forward to the present day; Lana Hamilton is returning to Mead House following the recent death of her grandmother, Nana Kitty. She and her twin brother, Ollie, are charged with cleaning the house and putting it on the market for sale. The three had lived with their grandmother after their mother died of cancer. The Woman from Paris is your eleventh novel. Was there any element of writing this novel that differed from your previous novels? How you do you think you have grown as a writer from your first novel, Meet Me Under the Ombu Tree? The characters will grow on you and bring you into their problems and their heartaches as well as their joys. I enjoyed the sibling and parental interactions with some being comical, some being emotional, and some being serious. It’s always very hard thinking of a new book, when I’m still very attached to the one I’ve just finished. It’s a challenge to think of a plot and characters that grip me as much as the last ones did. I couldn’t write about Italy again. I had to give my readers something different. I have spent a lot of my life in Switzerland. My father’s mother was Swiss and as a family we’ve spent much of the winter there for as long as I can remember. As a child I used to long to go on hot holidays because every opportunity to go away was taken up with skiing. I can’t complain. I adore skiing and the beauty of the mountains give me as much pleasure as the Tuscan sea. Clem is the youngest, and she's been through a lot. She has two young kids that run her ragged, and she's experienced a tragedy in the last year.

Hobbies

Where to start with what I loved about this book? I loved the story. It was compelling. I wanted to know what was really going on. The character development - I can't fail to mention that! I ended up loving Cook's entire team. They were each such individual characters with their own struggles to overcome. But my favorite was Special Agent Connie York. She's such a powerful female character. Recommended: The Summer House is recommended for Denton fans, for readers who appreciate uplifting and heartfelt stories, for those looking for lighter women’s fiction, and for book clubs looking for a gentle and heartwarming read. While I enjoy Keri Beevis' books and am a big fan, THE SUMMER HOUSE was not my favorite. Yes, there were a lot of twists and red herrings—however, due to the number of characters (way too many), there was not enough overall character development, too much evil and bad things, and not enough balance with the good. I did not care for any of the characters. NO humor. DISCLOSURE: Thank you to Thomas Nelson via NetGalley for providing a digital ARC of The Summer House by Lauren K. Denton for review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own personal opinions.
