The Serial Killer’s Wife by Alice Hunter - Whispering Stories

Despite that aspect, this was surprisingly juicy and very easy to read! I enjoyed this and think a fast reader could finish in one sitting. This compelling narrative had me engrossed from the beginning. It’s certainly a fast-paced thriller, aided by the very short chapters. Making it ideal for your bag and commuting, this book concluded with me experiencing goose bumps of anticipation. Due to the title of this book I was worried it was going to be a little predictable however there were definitely some twists and turns! It’s also true what they say... you never know what’s going on behind closed doors 👀 So once again I really enjoyed this book! I found it to be very fast paced and hardly put it down from start to finish. I felt like it was a well set out, easy to read and a straightforward thriller.

I did enjoy this book, despite none of the characters being particularly likeable. I also figured out the twists in the story - that says more about me and the type of books I read as apposed to it being a negative about this book. Set in the suburb of Lower Trew, the story is filled with interesting characters, who, for the most part, are unique but still tropes. This is managed admirably, most notably the put-together mom who really isn't perfect. It can also be seen in Tom, Beth's husband and the serial killer in the title.

Beth is worried about Tom being late by 2 hours coming home from his job in London. When he does get home there is no time to talk to him as DI Manning and DS Walters arrive to speak to Thomas Hardcastle about assisting them with a murder enquiry. He is taken the Banbury Police Station - Beth has a million questions when Tom is returned home who? what? where? why? Shortly after they arrive Tom comes home and is asked to come down the station to answer a few questions about a missing person from Tom's past ex girlfriend Katie. What a belting good story it is as it is told between a triangle of the central cast of players, Beth, Tom and the missing girl Katie. Katie had been a former girlfriend of Tom’s before he met Beth. I had to take some deep breathes to read some of these chapters as the relationship between Tom and Katie developed. All three of them have distinctive voices. What a great read. A did-he-didn’t-he story. The wife with the idyllic life. The life comes crashing down around her ears when her husband is arrested for the murder of his ex girlfriend who disappeared 8 years ago.

The Serial Killer’s Wife: The addictive bestselling crime

It is never a good thing when you open the front door expecting your husband who is late home from work and you come face to face with 2 police officers. They are looking for Beth's husband Tom, with questions about his ex-girlfriend who went missing 8 years ago. What does Tom know about it? You will have to read it to find out. Beth Hardcastle, husband Tom and daughter Poppy live in Lower Tew in Banbury. The story is told in Beth's perspective "Now", Tom's perspective "Now", Katie and Tom's perspective "8 Years Ago", conversations between a man and a woman - they are not identified and it's up to the reader to figure out that mystery, Beth's perspective "4 months Later" and Beth "15 months ago".The Serial Killer’s Wife is a new standalone, twisty, twisted psychological thriller that is guaranteed to keep you on your toes, spin your head a few times and keep you gripped from the opening chapter to the last. Beth and Tom are happily married. But when Tom is arrested for murder and his deep dark secrets come to light, Beth is left wondering just how well does she really know her husband? As more questions are asked about him, it seems she’s about to find out! Alice Hunter’s debut novel is a deliciously different psychological thriller. Told mostly from the perspective of Beth as the accused killer’s wife, Tom himself is a shadowy character for much of the novel. However, we hear Katie’s voice from eight years previously telling us about her relationship with Tom. We also hear details of a relationship from an unidentified man with a sexual penchant for erotic asphyxiation. Who is the woman and is the voice that of Tom, the good family man or someone else?

‘The Serial Killer’s Wife’: Paramount+ Greenlights Latest UK

Firstly, thank you so much to NetGalley and Avon Books for allowing me an advanced reader copy for an honest review in return 😊 One night it all gets upended when the police arrive to talk to her husband about a murder. I found her reactions to this a little odd at the time - was that how I would react? Hard to tell I guess isn't it. Perfection is a state which is always at least one step ahead of where you already are. A completeness that’s not really achievable. Flawlessness rarely is.” The Serial Killer’s Wife Paramount Plus release date is still under wraps, creating suspense among eager viewers. Largely told from Beth’s perspective, we follow her life crumbling down when her husband is arrested on suspicion of a murder that took place several years ago. Police are suspicious of Beth’s naivety and this is something she experiences in her village as people question why she was not aware of Tom’s murderous behaviour. After all, she is his wife, surely she suspected something? As the novel progresses, we learn about Tom’s past in very brief snapshots. So brief, in fact, that I was desperate for Hunter to develop this part of the plot further – I found it so very interesting. However, the focus primarily stays on Beth as she grows to cope with the media frenzy during the police investigations, turning to acquaintances in the village for support for both her and her daughter, Poppy.Sometimes I can't think of a lot to say about a book other than I really enjoyed it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It was well written. Well paced. Had plenty of twists and turns. None of the characters were particularly likable, but that worked in the story's context. And that ending! Did not see that coming, so kudos to the author for catching me off guard. 🙌🏻
