About this deal

Downweight is the weight on the front of the key needed to make the key sink slowly from a point approximately 4 mm below its rest position . The reason for measuring at the 4 mm dip is to overcome the friction and leverage at the top of key travel, where they are highest (see 'Friction Changes During Key Travel' and 'Leverage Changes During Key Travel' below). The ideal downweight ranges from about 50 grams in the bass to 46â47 grams in the treble, with 48 grams being a good target for the middle section. A downweight over 55 g (57â58 g in the bass and 54 g in the treble) will be perceived as heavy, especially when combined with high front weight (inertia). A downweight of 45 g or less will feel lightâit is acceptable only if the up So...after all the weights were out and laid out in these trays, I turned my attention to the biggest problem. This is getting the remaining epoxy off the plastec keys. It's interesting isn't it? Acoustic uprights tend to have lighter action because the strings and soundboard are vertical, so the hammers don't have to work against gravity. This is why people want the heavier grand action, to keep their fingers strong enough to play a Steinway or Bosey if needed or available. Raises the question: do people who practice on acoustic uprights have weaker hands than those practicing on grands?

Data point recognition and extraction accuracy can be impacted by many factors such as invoice formatting, font (handwriting) and graphics, scanner issues, etc. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place. Korg Kronos 73 or 88 (it's RH3 like the SV1/Grandstage, but definitely feels different from the SV1 at least) Hotswap and programmable keyboards are getting more and more common but they remain largely a feature of ‘build your own’ keyboards. Building your own keyboard is a whole other related topic beyond the remit of this article. But be sure to let us know if that is a topic you’d like us to cover. I did not measure key travel as I don't seem to have anything handy that I'd claim was precise enough for the job. There is also the consideration of regional peculiarities; for users in the Western world this boils down to ANSI (American National Standards Institute), with the straight enter key one row high, or ISO (International Organization for Standardization), typified with the angular enter key taking up two rows of height. The biggest differentiator in the Western world is the ISO or ANSI layout. ( Large preview) I understand that keys get lighter as you move to the higher keys. Why is that? Is that consistent across every piano?

keys are piano - Is it an issue if the white and black keys are

Pre-manufactured mechanical keyboards might not be the end of your journey. It’s possible they might just be the beginning. In terms of tactile switches, the Kailh Speed Copper feels like they have a little more resistance than a standard Kailh Brown. The Kailh Speed Coppers felt very similar to the Zealio switches in the WASD CODE board. It would take a real enthusiast to be able to discern any difference in a blind test. If you were to ask me today which switch to opt for as the best ‘all rounder’ I would suggest the Kaihl Brown or Speed Copper, or the Zealio switches. All felt great for typing/coding with the tactile feel providing a nice compromise between feel and volume. Whilst trying to describe the way a key switch feels in words might seem like an exercise in futility, I’m going to attempt just that regardless. Related, an interesting additional measurement (but with no easy way to measure that I can think of off-hand) would be the time between releasing a fully depressed key and when it comes to rest at the top of the travel with no further bounce.

If I don't get a response, I'm going to just dive in the deep end (I used to repair video projectors for a living, so I kind of have an idea of what I'm in for). Aesthetically, there is a wider choice of case colors in aluminium with even cerakoting and electrophoretical coating an option. But as you might imagine, with great beauty comes great expense. Here’s a reference and reminder of all the suppliers and manufacturers mentioned through this piece.

Piano Finders: Touchweight

What you need is a set of flexible pressure sensors worn like gloves. That way you can provide a profile of the pressure over time and catch all kinds of nuances in the action. Probably kind of expensive tho. . . . Once you have become a more advanced pianist, I encourage you to play around with both types of keyboards, weighted and non-weighted. See which one you prefer. If you’re into creating your own music, you might opt for the computerized feel of the non-weighted keyboard. The non-weighted keyboard feels more like a MIDI controller, if you’re used to playing on those. Beginners, however, will likely have an easier time learning to play on a weighted keyboard. Frequently Asked Questions About Weighted Keyboards Now I can see that the glue is really in bad shape! It has turned into a molten gloopy substance that is slowly dripping into the innards of the synth. Ouch. Semi-weighted keys offer some of the advantage of both types of key and so are a happy middle-ground. They can build finger strength to some degree while still allowing speed and dexterity. I was referring to the up and down key touch weight, not the actual weight of the keys, but the mass of the key would affect its momentum or "inertial feel."Like many people here, I play grand pianos for a living. I have yet to find a DP/controller action that isn"t too heavy or too light, and I have demoed them all. So Yamaha markets their CP73 as 'faster, lighter.' Well of course they do! Marketing 101. If you’re into the latest technology, you’ll be happy to know that Yamaha’s free Smart Pianist App on your smartphone can pair with the Yamaha P-125. This handy app allows you to control settings, rhythms and voices directly from your phone.

Even if it has the best sounds in the world, if it doesn’t play right for you, it’s not going to inspire you and bring you joy. Metallic cases, especially those made from aluminum and stainless steel, last longer because they are more durable. The Casio Privia PX-160 also features the AiR (Acoustic and intelligent Resonator) sound source patented by Casio. This gives the digital piano its grand piano sounds. It also helps to control the Damper Resonance when the keyboard’s damper pedal is pushed. It didn't quite do the entire job as clean as I wanted, so I then soaked the "troughs" with a household cleaner CONTAINING BLEACH (I used "Clorox Clean-Up Cleanser WITH BLEACH" in a spray bottle). This really breaks down the remaining epoxy and removes much of it's remaining adhesive properties. It also turns the epoxy to a almost opaque gray color. This is easy to remove with a small flat blade screwdriver and the keys look brand new with no sign the weights ever existed. This takes repeated soakings, so don't expect to get them looking new the first time...I kept at it until they were perfect. At first glance, some of the smaller layout sizes such as 60% and 65% might seem completely impractical. However, you might be surprised to know just how little you use certain keys.
