Applying the product too generously and insufficient ventilation lead to delays in drying time and the typical smell of oil. Mylands Wax is a unique product and is still manufactured to original recipes. It has been used successfully by antique restorers for well over a century. Mylands Traditional Wax Polishes are still manufactured to original recipes which are over 100 years old. They are formulated on the purest and hardest natural waxes available including Beeswax, Carnauba and Shellac Wax. Multiple applications will give increased durability and deeper shine. In addition to their use on wood, lighter coloured waxes may be used on metal and stone. Liquid Beeswax with Pure Turpentine is a traditional liquid wax that nourishes wood and gives an authentic finish to furniture.... Hi, is it possible to use the dark wax to antique wood kitchen cabinets? I’m not wanting to paint them but more so just update them if possible but I’m not sure how to go about it. Any help would be appreciated. Adding dark furniture wax adds such great depth to a painted piece of furniture. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to add clear wax and dark wax to a piece of furniture.

As a colouring primer for flooring: Leave to dry for approx. 24 hrs to allow pigmentation to cure before applying second coat with Osmo Polyx®-Oil. wax and buff the wax in the same direction as the grain of wood just as you would with paint. Some circular motions when buffing are fine too.

Also, the clear wax allows time to ‘play around’ with the effect you want and it allows you to take more off or add more on smoothly and easily. Why sealing it first? Water-based sealers and wax don’t mix so if, for example, you you apply polycrylic on your waxed piece, you will get a messy coat of both products that won’t dry and will come off on your hands and clothes. (Yes, I learned it the hard way). Also, if you apply clear wax on top of your dark wax, the second will remove the first. No matter what brand you choose, my only recommendation is to look for a very soft one. The softer the better, as it allows you more time to work on your piece before it dries. work in sections at a time when waxing. Make sure to buff that section first before moving on to another section (example: wax the top of the desk first then buff before moving on to the legs).

Left side: Apply some dark furniture wax over the clear wax. You only need to add a tiny amount. Dip your brush into the pot and brush on over the clear wax. Other household cleaning products such as vanish, bleach, baking soda etc. are likely to cause severe discolouration or staining. Wood grain remains visible with ‘transparent’ tones and wood grain is hidden (after two coats) of ‘intensive’ tones. Multi-purpose cleaners such as washing up liquids and detergents are highly detrimental to the finished surface and is not recommended to be used as discolouration or staining may be possible.Occasional Maintenance: Intensive cleaning and refreshing using Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner or Osmo Maintenance Oil. Important: For mechanically loaded areas, e.g. flooring, we recommend max. one coat and generally a thin top coat with clear Osmo Polyx®-Oil Original. For white flooring, a top coat with lightly white pigmented Osmo Polyx®-Oil Tints 3040 White. Drying time of Wood Wax Finish used on floors, approx. 24 hours (normal climatic conditions, 23 °C/ 50 % rel. humidity). Ventilate well while drying. After 2-3 weeks, the floor surface is fully cured. waxing replaces having to use a polyurethane coat and is typically used over chalk-type paints or Fusion Mineral Paint (FMP is an acrylic but goes on like a chalk type paint). Sand wood surface carefully, begin with coarse sandpaper – final sanding work for flooring P120-150, for furniture P220-240. Today’s contributor is Patricia from The Wood Spa and she is a sharing a tutorial on how to use dark wax to age furniture. All posts contributed by Patricia for Grillo Designs can be found HERE .

The wood surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (max. 18% moisture content). Osmo Wood Wax Finish is ready to use. Do not thin. Stir well before use. Wood grain remains visible with transparent tones and wood grain can be hidden with intensive tonesBuff the entire furniture piece with a lint-free soft cloth to take off any excess but to also work into the paint. Beeswax Paste with Pure Turpentine is a traditional paste wax that nourishes wood and gives an authentic finish to furniture.... These waxes may be applied to bare timber or used over a base stain. The following are suitable for use under this range of waxes: Light Fast Stains, Non Fade Ground Stains, Earth Stains and Waterbased Stains. The stain must be dry before application of the wax. (See individual stain Data Sheets for drying times). You can apply wax right away. It will get darker and a little harder to remove It, if you decide to. The look is a very antiqued one, not so subtle.

Two coats can be applied on wooden furniture, doors and joinery, but only one coat on flooring – as a second coat of Osmo Polyx®-Oil is required. One of the simplest and most beautiful ways to give an antique look to a piece of painted furniture is by applying dark wax. Intensive colour (two coats): with Osmo Flat Brush or Microfibre Roller, apply very thinly to the clean and dry wood surface along the wood grain and spread well. Ventilate well while drying. Apply the second coat – also thinly.Annie Sloan’s dark wax is a very good product, but its consistency is a little hard compared to some other brands. When using A.S. dark wax, I usually pre-mix it with a soft clear wax to make it more workable.
