About this deal

From cruising around town at the weekend to pedaling to work Monday–Friday, riding a good bike transforms travel time into quality time seven days a week At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. That structure also means that the one-piece pad does not need to be velcro-ed to the helmet shell. Instead it is attached only at the sides on both temples, and at the top of the head inside the middle ventilation channel. That resulted in no pressure point anywhere across my forehead, and also almost no indentation in my skin, even when cinching the retention down snugly for multi-hour rides. World champion Valverde is going for quality with this Abus Airbreaker, which is reflected in its price tag. If you're keen on co-ordination, the StormChaser is available in nine different combinations of colours too.

Abus AirBreaker helmet review | Cyclingnews

The AirBreaker is made in Italy and sells for 250€, in three sizes S, M & L. It comes in around 10 different standard color options (including this hi-vis neon yellow), plus special Movistar & World Champion stripe editions too. The US version doesn’t appear to be available just yet, but we expect it to make it stateside later this year. I always fumble with them and get annoyed when the left and right sides are uneven – I, for one, won’t be able to appreciate the added complexity of the helmet. The ABUS helmet straps do the job, and they fit snuggly right beneath the ear lopes even without adjustability. When the glasses were placed at the rear of the helmet, I wasn’t able to feel the legs of the sunglasses. This feature was a considerable improvement from the helmets I had in the past, where it felt annoying to have the legs of my sunglasses poking at my head. Now, I know everyone claims their helmet has some fancy venting tech or some kind of trans-warp speed engine to speed up airflow and venting but, this is the first helmet I’ve worn while climbing in 25-degree heat that I’ve actually thought 'I can feel the air blowing through my helmet' - in this regard, it's one of the best road bike helmets I've tested. The Airbreaker and Gamechanger are ABUS line of road helmets, with Airbreaker marketed as their road helmet and the Gamechanger, their aero helmet designed specifically for time trials. Let’s look at what we liked about these helmets. The AirBreaker's overall shape is the same as that of Abus's GameChanger aero lid that Liam reviewed here on road.cc and liked very much. Aero helmets tend to be heavier than most others and ventilation is usually compromised, hence the introduction of the AirBreaker. Our medium sized test model hit the scales at just 214g and it has a similar level of ventilation to the Abus Aventor that we reviewed last year. How does the price compare to that of similar products in the market, including ones recently tested on road.cc? Make no compromises. In cycling, the best rider with the best equipment wins. Winners bet on the AirBreaker.

Abus Airbreaker Road Helmet | Chain Reaction

The straps have a neat seam sewn to one edge to reduce flapping and wind noise. I found the helmet to be impressively quiet and, even while descending at over 40mph, there was very little in the way of wind noise. Unusually, you can entirely remove the straps from the helmet to hand wash them; you just twist the little metal anchor rods out of their plastic housings. That's handy if you want to soak the straps in soapy water after a really sweaty ride. Unlike the Abus Airbreaker, the Lazer Genesis has the option of MIPS. MIPS is a smooth plastic liner that is loosely attached within the shell of the helmet.part of this service, you will also be signed up to receive occasional special offers and third-party The Airbreaker Road Helmet has been created for road cyclists who want smooth aerodynamics but don’t want to compromise on keeping cool. This performance balance is made possible by Abus’ Multi Speed design, offering the best possible aerodynamics and at the same time ensuring optimum ventilation. Forced Air Cooling: Innovative ventilation system using intelligently arranged air channels in the EPS Lightness in helmets is a weird thing though: the difference between this super-light pro-level lid and a mid-level such as Giro’s Foray (265g) is about the weight of a tennis ball, which is pretty much moot. Bad air? Ventilate in time with the AirSecure! Our CO2 detector AirSecure reliably indicates the indoor air quality: In this way, you prevent headaches, malaise and an increased risk of infection. Practical for offices and schools.

Airbreaker | Highlights | ABUS

As someone who struggles with my head being hot whenever I put in hard efforts riding in the spring, summer & fall, most aero helmets get relegated to cold weather use for me. But this helmet was developed specifically with Abus’ sponsored Movistar riders for hot summer road racing where they didn’t want to leave any potential aero gains on the table. There’s not much to gain by having an aero helmet design if the straps are flapping around and generating air resistance. But a helmet is ultimately about keeping your noggin together in a spill and MIPS is generally rated to up the level of protection offered in a more severe crash - and it’s only available in the Lazer Genesis and not the Abus Airbreaker. ABUS AIRBREAKER VERSUS LAZER GENESIS: THE ALTERNATIVES to status. UK residents only. Sigma Sports Limited acts as a broker “Licence Number 688619” and not ActiCage Lite: A structural reinforcement integrated into the EPS of many sports helmets. It provides maximum protection while ensuring optimal ventilation and extreme comfort.

As the material is introduced into the mould, the internal shape is slid into position (almost the reverse of traditional EPS foam manufacturing). Having the external shape as the constant, and manipulating the internal shape, reduces the amount of material needed and increases channel depth. Overall, I’m seriously impressed with the Airbreaker. It oozes quality in both construction and design, and the fit is superb, as is the adjustment. The advantage of MIPS is debatable – and often contentious – but if there’s even the slightest chance of a beneficial effect I’d rather have it than not, though. They’re both designed to be aero and airy, with both brands claiming great aerodynamic performance without sacrificing ventilation for hot day climbing comfort. Aerodynamic, flutter-free and skin-friendly, thanks to specially developed webbing. Forced Air Cooling Technology Peter is a fastidious mechanic and will not settle for anything less than perfect when it comes to bike setup, whether it be a child first bike or a highly integrated top-tier time trial or road bike.
