The Toniebox is a child-friendly audio player designed to engage children with storytelling and music in a fun and interactive way. It is a box-shaped device available in a variety of colours, and works with a collection of hand-painted figures called "Tonies" which are essentially characters that hold the audio content. Children simply place the Tonie on top of the Toniebox, and the audio content starts playing automatically. The Toniebox’s simple design is intended to be easy for young children to use. During the setup process, when asked to ‘Choose your Wi-Fi’ please select the mobile hotspot you set up in step 2. Indeed, rather than gathering dust in the corner of her room like some toys, we use her Toniebox every night as part of her bedtime routine. Now that Olive is two, she is using her Toniebox more independently and will change the Tonies around herself, as well as play with the characters. Creative Tonies are probably the coolest invention ever! They are the blank canvas of audiobooks and ready to become whatever you and your kids want them to be! When you first receive your Creative Tonie (one of which is included in the Starter Set), you register it to your Tonie cloud. Once that is done you can add your own audio content. It's a topic that a LOT of parenting discussion forums have been dedicated to. But honestly, it goes down to personal choice and in some ways, even though they're always compared and you'd be unlikely to have both, they're quite different toys. It's fair to say that the Yoto has some more features, but for us the Toniebox's simplicity was key for younger children to understand and use. Tonies have also just brought out a podcast tonie, which brings it more in line with some of the functions of the Yoto too. Once you’ve added your content, simply place your creative Tonie onto the top of your Toniebox, and it will play your content. This means it’s super easy for kids to use. Other Controls Olive’s Toniebox is used everyday in our household, either as part of her bedtime routine or (increasingly) during the day when Olive wants to listen to music or a story. Furthermore, despite buying the box for Olive when she was only one, I still feel like we’ve had plenty of use from it, and this will only continue as she grows older and her attention span expands.

Although you can plug in headphones, your child will be limited in movement when listening. Tonieboxes are designed for children aged three years and up, although I'd say that they can be used by younger children, too. My children have used them from around the age of a year and a half, when they particularly enjoyed the musical Tonies and songs. Obviously, the older they get, the more engaged they will be with all the stories available. What Is The Point Of A Toniebox? It took me a good half an hour to set up the Toniebox when it arrived. Connecting it to the internet was easy enough. I followed the steps on the included setup guide. You need to make sure the recipient has 2.4GhZ wifi before you buy.
