Their CNC gearing technology makes all components of the gearbox out of brass and since they use a CNC machining process it ensures precision. This results in enhanced cranking power which is especially important when dealing with saltwater. IPX6 Sealed Body The Penn Slammer IV features many of the technologies you have come to love on the Slammer III, like IPX waterproof Seal and CNC Gear technology. However, a few extra ball bearings are now included (now 8), plus a hydrophobic line roller bearing for improved performance and water resistance. Then there has been a rotor weight reduction by approximately 10-15% in most models too.Oversize, Aluminium Handle (Alternative EVA handle also supplied Excluding 2500 size which is EVA only) Sizes Available: 3500, 4500, 5500, 6500, 7500, 8500, 9500, 10500. There are also fast-retrieve versions in sizes 6500 and 8500 available. Let’s be honest here - if you go down the Penn Slammer IV route for UK and Irish bass fishing, they are already way more than enough spinning reel for the fish we catch from a strength/drag point of view, indeed you have most likely made your choice because of what the reels can do for you as regards standing up to saltwater hassles and so on. I also love the Shimano Stradic and Vanford spinning reels that I have fished with, but if money were no object I’d be very tempted by some of the Shimano Stellas instead. But in reality do I need more spinning reel than a Stradic or a Vanford or a Slammer for what I do with lure fishing for bass? Machined aluminium power knob and spare Hypalon knob across the range (excluding 2500 size which has Hypalon knob only) The brand is so important because it plays a major role in the quality of the reel you get and the customer service you experience if you have an issue. Penn has been around since the 1930s, they have a strong reputation, they’re not going to let you down.

I find that the reel is set so far from the blank that it makes it feel heavier than it is. Now you have a reel in the 10-12 oz range and it sits on the rod like a lump and pulls it down because it’s so far away from the blank. I’d like to see them center it a little closer and shorten the length of the foot. Alternatives In the case of the SLAIV4500, it has a 6.2:1 gear ratio. This means that each time you turn that handle, the spool will spin 6.2 times. Would you look at that? Features are the first thing. You want to look at the features of a reel and see what it brings to the table. A lot of what you read can be nonsense that won’t impact your ability to catch fish.

About the product

Size 4500- Gear Ratio 6.2:1 -Bearings 9 - Max Drag 30lb/13.6kg - Mono Capacity m/mm 390/0.25 215/0.33 - Instant Anti-Reverse We have categorized the Penn Slammer 4 Reels into a few separate categories from medium to extra large If you’re looking for a workhorse of a reel that’s strong and durable, you’ll love the Penn Slammer III. The point of having a full metal body and side plate is to help keep everything aligned properly when the reel is under pressure. When there is plastic or cheaper materials used, the reel will flex which can mess up the pinion and gears inside resulting in a shorter lifespan and reduced smoothness over time. CNC Gearing

We wondered if, at a weight of 22.4oz (633g) the reel would feel heavy? Nope! We actually found that the reel balances really well on our typical 11ft to 11ft 6in bass rods, also on the longer European style soft tipped boat rods around the 10ft to 11ft length we prefer for general boat drift fishing and species hunting. Here are some of the most popular model comparisons to help you get an idea of how the features and specifications change as you increase or decrease in size: Model The gear ratio is something that a lot of anglers struggle to understand but it’s very important in saltwater fishing. Gear ratio refers to how many revolutions the spool takes for each crank on the reel. And, if you need ultra-accurate casting distances to reach fishy looking snags or want to fish right on the edge of a distant estuary channel, then the spool carries a line clip you can clip the line into once you’ve gauged the distance you need to cast to keep your baits or lures bang on the money.

With this new and improved reel in your arsenal, prepare to become a saltwater legend.

The Slammer® name needs little introduction in saltwater circles, developing a cult following for being synonymous with bulletproof strength and lasting the distance no matter the conditions. Now Slammer® appears on a PENN® rod range, representing the next generation of high performance sportfishing rods, with powerful, lightweight blanks combining with renowned Slammer® durability. The range is also equipped with tangle-free Fuji® K frame guides containing SiC inserts, Fuji® reel seats, and contoured high density EVA grips for a technical, sensitive, and premium finish.
