Youth of the Nation (US promo CD liner notes). P.O.D. Atlantic Records. 2001. PRCD 300728. {{ cite AV media notes}}: CS1 maint: others in cite AV media (notes) ( link) The success of The Fundamental Elements Of Southtown meant P.O.D. had the wind in their sails when it came to the follow-up. They were already deep into the writing process when the Santana High School shooting took place. It couldn’t help but stir memories of the Columbine killings two years earlier. In the wake of that earlier tragedy, they had been invited to Colorado to play what Sandoval calls a “show of healing” organised by students who had survived the massacre. Yet here they were again, history repeating itself in the same senseless fashion.

Galen from California , CaI was one of the kids who survived the shooting and when I heard about them writing a song about it I couldn't wait to hear it. The video features a prefamous Joel David Moore as the teenager driving the car. [5] [ bettersourceneeded] Rebka from Crapville, WyI like this song. It's really meaningful. P.O.D is a good group. They are also christian. Marcos Curiel noted that censorship of the video came into play due to Viacom: "We had a girl sitting on the hood of the car going down the highway trying to be free-spirited, you know? [...] But, Viacom and MTV had us edit that out because kids are so easily influenced." [4] Awards [ edit ]

Notes

The third verse has Sonny being angry that nobody knows what’s going on with the youth that’s causing depression, violence, and suicide. Toby from London, United KingdomThe song is cool. But all of the people going on about God this and God that infact make me want to shoot them. The song's inspiration stems from a trip when the band was on their way to record for Satellite on March 5, 2001. They were held up in traffic and discovered that the reason was a mass shooting at Santana High School, where a fifteen-year-old student named Charles Andrew Williams killed two and wounded thirteen. The album was consequently delayed, and the band was inspired to write "Youth of the Nation." Joel from Columbia, ScI like this song. It is similar to "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam in that there were both shootings at a school. It is sad when something like that happens but having a song about it helps to get through.

Lacie from Whitefish, MtI love this song!!! I remember hearing it in school in 5th grade! it was a great song...Kinda scared me at first but it has good meaning As they talked, guitarist Marcos Curiel began strumming sombre chords. “We just started to jam,” says Sandoval. “Just to get out what we were feeling.” A vocal hook came to the singer: 'We are, we are… the youth of the nation.'The Columbine High School massacre was perpetrated by two senior students of the Columbine High School 17-year-old Dylan Klebold and 18-year-old Eric Harris. The massacre, which lasted from 11:19 a.m. to 12:08 p.m., claimed the lives of 12 students and a teacher. The shooting also left 24 others with various degrees of injuries. After the killings, the two perpetrators exchanged fire with police before committing suicide. The pair’s motives for committing the heinous crime still remain unclear.

Jim from San Diego, CaThanks to P.O.D. for putting out a song that has meaning. This is a great song because it touches something the effects and concerns us all. The song was released on Christmas Day of 2001 (December 25th, 2001) as the second single from the band’s fourth studio album Satellite. Satellite sold over seven million copies across the globe, making it one of the best-selling album of all time. Youth of the Nation (UK & European CD single liner notes). P.O.D.
