Our delicious waiting is made even more appetizing by the Cardigans "new" release, Gran Turismo. The sounds I hear disturb me, though. Where the Cardigans seemed so on top of their game on Last Band, Gran Turismo gives me a Nina that seems to have grown morose from her waiting. The light, sharply- arranged and smilingly ironic attitude that saturated their previous effort has metamorphosed into a self- concerned dragging effort devoid of the featherweight happiness that the Cardigans have been notable for. I guess there was a sense of the band taking this radical departure from their best-known work and trying something new. Whilst the album sold incredibly well, I feel there is this slightly sense of resignation from critics – many were hoping that the band would continue down their own path. When Pitchfork assessed Gran Turismo in 2008, they remarked the following: During the band's first break Nina Persson released an album as A Camp, and Peter Svensson and Bengt Lagerberg worked on the project Paus with help from Joakim Berg from Kent, and Magnus Sveningsson recorded as Righteous Boy. In the band's break of 2007, Persson recorded the second A Camp album Colonia, [20] which was released in early 2009. In June 2018, the band announced their only live shows of the year: a four-date UK tour in December to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Gran Turismo in which they would perform the album in full again. [14] In an interview to promote the tour, Persson stated, "There won’t be any more Cardigans records, I’m pretty sure. But we’ll keep doing little tours and shows as long as it’s fun, as long as we can do it well and feel that it’s something that’s current to us." [15]

Now the serious Pro Tools work began, as Tore recounts. "After recording the drums, we immediately started recording the guitars dry to Pro Tools so that we could choose our amps later. This was where Amp Farm [ Line 6's Pro Tools guitar amp emulation plug‑in] came in useful. We didn't use Amp Farm on the hook guitar line, though — it's heavily compressed and extremely EQ'd, with a band‑pass filter a little below 1kHz. We also looped it to get that repetitive feeling. The sound just comes from the analogue compressors and EQs distorting, not Amp Farm."
