Description

There are no prizes or awards available, only bragging rights and the fun of discovering new places. I found this puzzle the other week by Dragonfjord called A Puzzle Day. Basically you fit the pieces into a Tetris board but leave the current Mon and Day open. Since I also just bought a laser cutter, I thought I could program a solver for this puzzle and use that program to help me make new puzzles. The very first optimized brute force version of my program took about 8 minutes to find all solutions for a single day. After playing with pypy and multiprocessing I was able to get it down to about 2 minutes. That would still have taken well over 12 hours to find all solutions for every day. Eventually, I was lead down an interesting path of learning what Dancing Links and Algorithm X were and trying to wrap my head around it. I was finally able to get my program to find all solutions for all days in a little under 7m. In the end, I finished the program and ran some numbers that some of you might find interesting. Here we will count a flipped piece as a new solution, even if the shape is the same. We can think of this as the pieces having separate colors on each side. An expanded form of that where, with a flip of the t-shape the c- and b-shapes can be swapped, providing another round of solutions, up to twelve in total;

About a month ago I was watching a YouTube video where YouTuber Drew Gooden was struggling with a “weird” puzzle: Description The original daily calendar puzzle with 365+ challenges for every day of the year! Now available in 6 languages! Next I wrote the code to generate all the possible rotations of a certain puzzle piece (and eliminated duplicates). Some pieces have more rotations than others because some are the same after a 180 degree rotation, others are not. A square shape with a hole made up of three shapes that can be rotated or flipped to provide eight or twelve solutions (perahps with an l-shape swap).After seeing how much fun the Ingress community has had solving the IngressFS@Home puzzles, we’ve brought together all the old puzzles so everyone can have a chance at exploring a new place in the world every day. Ranking is sorted first by number of puzzles solved then by lowest total solve time based on when the puzzle was released until the solution was submitted.

There are almost 120 thousand ways the pieces fit in the frame, but finding the date you want can sometimes drive you crazy! (Some people decided it would be easier to change their birthdays instead!) The solutions do not have to create a valid date. There can be two month gaps, two day gaps as well as invalid dates such as February 31 st. Next we consider a flipped piece a new solution only if it has a new shape. Symmetrical pieces can then only be placed in 4 orientations and the asymmetrical pieces can still be placed in 8 orientations.Each set comes with the calendar puzzle frame and eight pieces. All you need to do is fit the pieces in the frame in a way that only leaves one month and one day exposed. We're starting with the most permissive criterias and then we'll be adding more and more restraints which will reduce the number of solutions. The below leaderboard updates every 10 minutes (manual refresh required). If you’re having issues, try a force refresh (shift+F5) With varying criterias we have found more and less than 120 000 solutions but not anything close to specifically 120 000 solutions.

When you solve the puzzle, don’t share the passcode in any channels, let other people enjoy solving the puzzles in their own time. However, you can help guide new agents on the right path. Vanishing Inc. UK Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales with company number 09430707. Prices shown excluding UK VAT. We’re all missing the days when we used to be able to explore the portals of the world. Although it may still be a fair while until we are able to visit them in person again, we can still discover new places and learn a lot about them through the Intel map and Google Search.

To solve this, I first encoded all the puzzle pieces, this is relatively easy to do because it’s just a 2D grid. We are so excited to have “A-Puzzle-A-Day” available for you. This is one of the most fun and addicting puzzles we’ve ever offered. There is a different challenge for every single day of the year. That’s 365 puzzles for one low price, making “A-Puzzle-A-Day” one of the greatest values you’ll ever find. To get on the leaderboard, fill in the form below with the passcode solved from the puzzle within 125 hours of the puzzle being released. Genius! Most puzzles you only solve once and you’re done. This puzzle is a new puzzle every day.” – Terry E.
