I'm a music producer and I was looking for a pair of speaker to use for mixing and when I get tired of headphones when writing music. I use them in my bedroom studio. My room is approximately 10 m2 so was looking for about 5" speakers. The balance between frequencies is not perfect, a little bit darker for decent speakers but lets be honest, you can buy only one speaker for that price. If you consider their price, the sound is the best you can get. Also I used Yamaha HS5 before and i prefer Eris. The connection options are really good. You have plenty of options. You can connect to your source via XLR, TRS or RCA. Also they are looking really good on top of my desk. I use them in untreated 12-20 square meter rooms, volume wise there is no way you will ever need more volume than they can provide even if you want to throw a small party in the house (50 square meters).

KRK Rokit 5 G4Good response down to around 65 Hz (higher than the advertised 53), so you'll need a sub if you want any sub-bass. Response is exaggerated by 5-10 dB from 65-450 Hz, resulting in noticeably exaggerated bass. It's quite flat after that, resulting in a very clean non-bass sound.

The Eris E5 monitors are no exception. You can use these controls to compensate for a small or untreated room, or less than ideal monitor placement. I did find that while the highs were better than I expected at this price point, they were a little muddy and needed adjustment to get them closer to flat, but it wasn’t too much hassle to tweak the output, thanks to onboard tuning options.

I get anything from zero to some hiss but that depends on the room I use them and the outlet configuration so I know it's not the speakers that may or will cause any hiss (always TRS connection and volume set on max). So, that's that.In each case, I've had speaker models that were very quiet, or in worst case scenarios, there may have been a faint hiss coming from the tweeters (at a lower level) when nothing was playing, and then only when you bring your hear close to the speaker(s). I've been using these for about a month on PC, along with a Topping DM7 DAC, Temblor T10 sub, Gator isolation pads, and some Jumperz Gold cables. Measurements were taken with a basic Umik measurement mic from MiniDSP. For this test, I set all switches, knobs and filters to default and held my phone about 6 inches away from the monitor. I then played white noise using a synthesis plugin in my DAW. I recorded roughly 2 minutes worth of white noise in the analyzer using both linear and logarithmic scaling. Below are the results. Ideally, the tweeters should be inline with your ears. That’s not always practical for desktop speakers. But you may be able to angle them upwards, so they point to your ears, with ‘ angle isolation pads‘. These will also help to stop bass vibrations from rattling your desk, and muddying the sound. At a diameter of 5.25 inches, the woofers in the PreSonus Eris E5 monitors are small compared to some other studio monitors with perhaps 7″ or 8″ woofers. This means they’ll reproducing less of the lower bass frequencies.The PreSonus Eris E5 monitors are designed for small spaces, where too much bass would be detrimental to the sound. There’s no point in having the lowest sub-bass if you’re in a small room. The lower frequency sounds would become cluttered and messy. You’d have no way of hearing an accurate representation of your music. Looking at the +/- 12v to the I/O board there's no hum/ripple - but it's very spikey with about 10mV p2p. Not sure of frequency, but probably around 30kHz, but with lots of lower level noise between peaks. Before we really dig into the details of this PreSonus Eris E5 review, it’s helpful to explore what actually makes a good studio monitor. The truth is that there’s no objective standard for the “best” near-field monitors, so part of the process always comes down to personal preference. Still, there are a few important things you should consider. They have two tuning knobs labeled “HIGH” and “MID” which range from +6 dB to -6 dB. “HIGH” boosts or cuts frequencies above 10 kHz and “MID” boosts or cuts frequencies around 1 kHz.
