Description

The book is set in Jersey and portrays the island really well and conjures up a wonderful relaxed image in your mind Dead Man’s Time calls Roy Grace in once more. This time it’s for a burglary that has taken over a million pounds worth of loot. It has also left an elderly man who lives there dying. As Grace shows up on the scene, it’s clear that the family does not care so much about the valuables so much as one valuable in particular. They will do anything to get it. They don’t care about breaking the law and Grace is thrown into a hot pursuit that takes him through Europe and eventually all the way to New York.

I really liked Georgie as a character - her excitement of finally becoming pregnant whilst her love of fitness and high online following to incorporate the two is rather sweet. Driving to work one morning, his mind elsewhere and not on the road, he almost mows down a female jogger on a crossing. As she runs on, Marcus is transfixed. Infatuated. She is the spitting image of a girl he was crazy about in his teens. A girl he has never been able to get out of his mind. From the number one bestselling author, Peter James, comes I Follow You, a nerve-shredding standalone thriller. Georgie is finally happy. Having met the man of her dreams with lots of exciting things happening, she has the beginnings of all she ever dreamt of. Little does she know that she has fallen on someone else’s radar. Someone who is keen to turn her dreams into theirs ... I’ve read lots of books that feature stalkers in all shapes sizes and forms but Marcus is truly one of the most ‘weaselly’ of characters, petulant, childish, whiney, self centred and arrogant

The story centres around top Gynaecologist Marcus Valentine and his fixation for a woman who reminds him of a girl he had his first sexual encounter with Lynette had dumped him harshly. For years he has fantasized about seeing her again and rekindling their flame. Might that jogger possibly be her all these years later? Could this be the most incredible coincidence? I won’t say anymore as I really don’t want to spoil it fir you, but I will say this book has some nail biting moments which will have you on the edge of your seat.

I can be quite harsh when it comes to the details of medicine and the medical profession in a fictional book. But, in this case, I was able to suspend some disbelief and go with the story of a stalker physician.

Peter James Biography:

Here is a story of obsession, stalking and narcissism that ends with a tense thrilling good enough for TV finale His father ran the business as well as an accountant. His sister Genevieve now runs the company along with her husband. He attended Charterhouse School and later attended Ravensbourne Film School. James spent a few years working in North America as a film producer and screenwriter. He got his start in 1970 on the Canadian children’s television show Polka Dot Door as an errand boy and later writer. He cofounded Movision Pictures in the nineties.

Detective Superintendent Roy Grace is brought on to the case and grows suspicious when the one friend who wasn’t out celebrating refuses to collaborate on the case. All of a sudden, a motive surfaces, and Michael’s near accident may not be so accidental after all. In Looking Good Dead, published in 2006, Tom Bryce finds an apparently lost cd and decides to try to return it to its owner. But when his mission to return the cd leads to him witnessing a ghastly homicide, his family is threatened if he decides to go to the police. Meanwhile, Roy Grace is still haunted by his missing wife. It’s been nearly ten years since she disappeared. James became a successful producer of 26 films. The first movie he produced was 1971’s The Corpse Grinders. In addition to Corpse Grinders, Peter James has also produced such movies as Under Milk Wood, Dead of Night, Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things, Spanish Fly, Jericho Mansions, Head in the Clouds, and The Bridge of San Luis Rey. He was the executive producer of 2004’s take on Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. It took me a little longer to get into the flow of this thriller, though I put that down to the Jersey setting - even his Cold Hill books are set in Sussex.

To the outside world, suave, charming and confident doctor Marcus Valentine has it all. A loving wife, three kids, a great job. But there’s something missing, there always has been. . . . or rather, someone . . . Georgina Maclean or Georgie, as she is better known as, is the jogger who Marcus narrowly misses, and one look at her kindles a long-smoldering fire within his mind. During his teenage years, he used to obsess over a girl called Lynette, and his short tryst and subsequent break-up with her, left him feeling completely shortchanged and he had never really stopped thinking about her or moved on from wanting her. Despite the decades that have passed by, medical education, and many positive turns his life has taken since then, his love and desire for Lynette, remain unrequited. In Georgie, he finds such a likeness to Lynette, he initially is convinced it is Lynette. The writing is sharp and crisp. The characters are secretive, obsessive, and impulsive. And the plot is a disturbingly eerie tale of control, obsession, deception, jealousy, betrayal, depravity, senseless violence, and murder. Georgie doesn’t recognise Marcus but he makes sure he gets to know her that night and leaves her feeling a bit uncomfortable.

Now the book is easy to guess, at every juncture but didn’t bother me at all and heightened the excitement as knew what was about to happen The fact that she's delighted that a Doctor is now following her progress and makes her feel validated was when I realised I was hooked. After almost accidentally running over a woman (Georgie), the protagonist (Dr. Valentine) begins to delusionally believe that he and Georgie are meant to be together.

Host was adapted into a made for tv movie by the US Network in 1998. Dr. Joe Messenger, played by Peter Gallagher, gives into the seduction of a terminally ill woman. He later finds that she has uploaded herself into a computer. Now she threatens to destroy his family from beyond the grave. ITV made Prophecy into a feature in 1995. A Ouija Board, an archaeologist, and a widower with his son are all connected. Dr. Valentine's obsession for Georgie becomes dangerously out of control -- and there is no stopping him. He uses his title as a doctor and his hospital privileges to manipulate Georgie and her husband; resulting in a series of heart-wrenching cataclysmic events. Despite all his attempts to resist, he is consumed by cravings for this woman. And when events take a tragically unexpected turn, his obsession threatens to destroy both their worlds. But still he won’t stop. Can’t stop. In Marcus’ mind, he is meant to be with Georgie so he goes to extreme lengths to try and make it happen.
