The Dark Knight Rises: Ultimate Collector's Edition Steelbook ( US/ UK) – TBA, 6/6/22 in the UK – N4K With this being a Studiocanal release, there is always the potential for egregious changes to be made to the underlying colour grading and again, in comparison to the previous release, it looks to be almost identical in terms of its colour base. Reds run quite hot on the 4K, from the sirens and brake lights of the various cars to the abandoned speedway bridge at the 28:40 min mark, almost to the point of the unnatural – however again, these were always the case, the previous 1080p release showing similar levels of amped up red in its palette. However, this doesn’t seem to affect the rest of the image – skin tones look very similar and nicely natural for the most part (there are the odd times where skin tones look slightly hotter on the 4K release – Paul Shenar at 32:05 mins looks a little more sunburnt than in the 1080p release - but there is equally the odd example where skin tones look a touch cooler, as in the case of the gorgeous Kathryn Harrold’s mid-shot as she flirts outrageously with Arnold at the 41:30 min mark). So, while there are some slight tweaks here and there to the colour scheme, overall its very similar to the previous release and thankfully free of any newly implemented yellow or teal wash.
