About this deal

Both this book and the original Say Cheese and Die! end on the same twist ending of characters waiting to see the photo the camera created. The movie series made the books’ author, R.L. Stine, a main character to try and connect the books together. This series, for the first time, seems to be trying to actually bring the most famous elements from the series together into the same story. Larry Boyd freaks out when his hands become hairy, presumably as a result of expired tanning lotion. Things get weirder when his friends begin to disappear and dogs who share their physical features appear in their place. What renders Spidey such a bizarre character in this narrative is the fact that Stine wrote an entity that glimmers along the water’s edge like a ray while simultaneously floating as a crocodile’s body under the surface. Though Spidey is revealed to be a man who used to be a famed scientist, one that is self-proclaimed as being “very evil”, the actions performed by this man teeter on severely dangerous—whereas they are, perhaps, meant to simply be a bit freaky. Should Spidey not have broken into Greg’s room & gone through all his personal belongings in an act that proves to be at once predatory & insane, I might have felt differently. However, the raving delusions of this adult escalate to a scene where he is chasing two (2) of the children down the street & then has them cornered in the basement of the house telling them that they will never be able to leave. The plot of this book is similar to Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone television episode, A Most Unusual Camera. R.L. Stine was a big fan of the show and much of his work was inspired by Serling.

In the small town of Pitts Landing, Greg Banks is in his English class and is called upon by his English teacher, Mr. Saur, to give a report about what he did during the summer. Mr. Saur is a strict teacher who never laughs and is referred to as "Sour Ball" by Greg and his friends. Greg describes what happened to him last summer with the evil camera, but Mr. Saur believes the story is false and gives Greg an "F" on the assignment. Greg insists his story is true, so Mr. Saur challenges Greg to present the camera. Greg's parents won't let him visit his cousins in the summer if he flunks his report, so he's desperate to prove his story's validity. Frightened, James rushes to seek help from Margot. Initially, she thanks him for saving her life but pushes him away as he approaches her for his own needs. I think R.L. Stine did the world a great service by introducing horror books to children. Children love horror; they love being scared. But only a bit scared - these books are great at being genuinely frightening, but not scarring. And the worst thing is that the pictures come true. After taking a picture of Michael which shows him falling through a railing, Michael does indeed fall through a railing and twist his ankle. After taking a picture of his dad's brand new car, he sees in the picture that the car is totaled, with the driver's side caved in. Two days later his dad's in the hospital with a broken arm, broken ribs and a concussion, the car now un-drivable. In the book, Greg Banks first finds the camera in a compartment hidden in the wall of the basement of a reputed haunted house he and his friends are exploring. In the TV version, he still finds it in a hidden compartment, but in the wall of the basement of an abandoned factory building.Pitts Landing is in fact, the Pitts, or so claim the group of four (4) young friends who find themselves roaming the streets of their town one summer’s day without any idea of what to do with their free time. After listing off what appears to be a diverse list of ideas, most of which cost money that they do not have, the quartet decides to investigate the Coffman House. This abandoned building sits on the outskirts of the playground, surrounded by overgrown vegetation & is drenched in looming lore; Who lived there? What happened to them? Is someone living in the house now? The Sadler siblings Jerry and Terri try to solve the mystery of the ghostly resident living in a mountain cave near the beach. Lucy Dark likes tormenting her younger brother into thinking that monsters are real – till she learns that her librarian Mr. Mortman is one.

Trina O'Dell's father Mr. O'Dell used to be a famous ventriloquist, but now he only collects and refurnishes old ventriloquist dolls in his spare time. He finds Slappy in the trash and adds him to his collection. After reading the words that come with Slappy, not only does the evil dummy comes to life, but so does his entire collection. In seventh grade when I started to read, I didn't know exactly what to read or what interested me so every day at the end of the school day I would take the stairs (no elevator because it's a school obviously) to the fourth floor and head to our school library which mostly contained of Arabic books. I would go to the English section and the only books I would find were old, dusty, and duct-taped Goosebumps books. The original Tim Jacobus cover art features a young female skeleton at the picnic table, despite Greg not having any sisters mentioned in the book. One of the skeleton kids on the cover is wearing a shirt with a design closely resembling the logo for The Grateful Dead. The next day, Isaiah meets James, but unfortunately, Mr.Bratt shows up, calling out for Isaiah. Mr. Bratt gives the bag to Isaiah and agrees not to tell his parents about the party if Isaiah could tell everyone to keep away from his house. Mr.Bratt also makes his acquaintance as his English teacher.Greg and Shari try to escape. During the struggle, Shari takes the camera from Spidey and takes Spidey's photo with it. Spidey dies of fright, an event that the photograph seems to depict. Finally, Greg and Shari return the camera to its hiding place and leave the building. They tell the Pitts Landing police that they found Spidey's corpse in the house. The camera in the original book is described as an ordinary-looking old-fashioned Polaroid camera, except that it was much heavier. In the television version, it has a more futuristic design. It's unknown why it was given a change of appearance, especially since the second DVD release also has the camera look ordinary.

The book shows Greg giving his report to the class, while the episode just shows Mr. Saur reading it himself and grading it. And, of course, as I got older, my fascination with them faded away. I sold them to Bookman's, gave them to neighbor kids, passed them on to my brother, and generally forgot about them, 'til I started working in a public library, and they entered my consciousness again. But why reread them? They're not like other kid's books, like the one I recently finished ( The Name of this Book is Secret), where an adult can enjoy them too. Or are they? When a couple of Goodreads friends, Caris and Ben, started talking about them, I decided to read one too. Harold then possesses Mr. Bratt as the episode comes to a close. Goosebumps season 1, episode 1 recap – A new take on the Goosebumps franchise And, of course, as I got older, my fascination with them faded away. When a couple ofBilly Harlan is staying at Camp Nightmoon turns to horror when word of the monster Sabre lurking in the woods crops up, followed by a series of events leaving campers injured and missing. The pranksters Duane and Stephanie love to visit Hill House, a place said to be haunted by a ghost of a young boy who was decapitated by an evil sea captain. One night, they decide to go to the house after it closes to find the boy's head, but actually end up encountering the headless ghost as well as a few other restless spirits. The dialogue isn't great, but it's not terrible, for me it's just Mediocre. Nobody really stands out here. But if you do compare it to the original the acting is at it's best. The old siries is renown for it's bad acting, I mean just watch "Ghost Beach" or "My Hairest Adventure" for example, if you don't believe me. The acting is laughably bad. Both episodes can be seen on YouTube, all 4 seasons, if your wondering. And want to see the old show again. I wouldn't blame you.

It is important to note that the majority of the themes explored in this book deal with sensitive subject matters. My review, therefore, touches on these topics as well. Many people might find the subject matters of the book as well as those detailed in my review overwhelming. I would suggest you steer clear of both if this is the case. Please note that from this point forward I will be writing about matters which contain reflections on inappropriate activities of an adult against minors, the disappearance of a minor, & others.
