The opening of Pure Malt really sets the stage. This is a a rich and enticing fragrance. It kind of reminds me of B*Men also by Thierry Mugler but way better with less spice and an enjoyable fruitiness. Pure Malt feature a boozy type of aroma, It's beautiful, like a fine whiskey. There is a warm sweetness in the same vein as Pure Havane but with alcohol in lieu of tobacco. The start features the blend of fruits, vanilla, whiskey, and a bit of the patchouli. The patchouli comes through to give it a warm bakery feeling, like it does in so many women’s perfumes. However here, it just helps to shape the alcoholic sweetness. The newer version is horrible. My didn't last more than an hour tops, it smells diluted to my nose, you can tell that the depth just isn't there. This is a great fragrance for a night out, especially if going to a bar or a venue where alcohol is served. Quite a youthful scent, but certainly can be worn by any age, including the ladies.

The end game seems similar to original A*Men. Pure Malt winds up confectionary-like because of the dominant vanilla. Sniffing my wrist after seven or eight hours I smell toffee, though I'm surprised to discover some residual patchouli lingers at this very late stage. I'd be rating Pure Malt appreciably higher had the whiskey and peat notes properly lasted into the dry down and blunted the potent vanilla. Thierry Mugler is a French fashion designer and photographer known for his 1980s power fashions and widely credited with introducing a new fragrance trend or category—gourmand—in the 1990s. This fragrance is well-suited for men of all ages and styles. It is not too overpowering, but it is still noticeable enough to make a statement. A*Men Ultimate is a great choice for men who are looking for a signature scent that is both stylish and sophisticated.

This is likely not a work scent. This is casual fragrance, and could be worn day or night, but I imagine it could be really nice as an after hours/nighttime, date fragrance, or for a day at the beach.

I have the 2013 version, and with obvious exceptions, I don't get into the reformulation thing. But the performance I get is pretty decent. Strong fairly boozy projection for the first hour, moderate projection that is more sweet than boozy for the next several hours, and then a skin scent after around 6 hours, but if I get moving it activates and projects harder. I wear this in 70 degrees or less, which where I live means end of fall through beginning of spring, and usually as an evening scent. I bought this frag during the summer months. I waited to give my review until the fall when most change from spring/summer fragrance. As the scent wears on, I feel that it becomes even better than the opening act. The berry-like fruits begin to fully emerge and give the cologne a distinctive feel. Nonetheless, they are only playing a supporting role at this stage. However, Pure Malt never relinquishes its very masculine energy or fall into a trap of being too ambiguous. I found myself constantly trying to get a whiff of this lovely gourmand scent throughout the night that I was wearing it. It was just enjoyable and pleasant to wear.

I can confirm that these fragrances are different to each other. The original A*Men Pure Malt is a combination of the Pure Malt Whisky note and the original A*Men Eau de Toilette fragrance. The woody notes of cedar wood and patchouli and the powerful notes of coffee already present in the original A*Men Eau de Toilette intensify the combination. The fragrance is then further distilled using modern technology. I have spend my hard earned money on the whole set with showergel, bodybutter, hair perfume and so on. Discover the fusion between A*men and the world of spirits thanks to a patented method inspired by traditional techniques used to produce the finest Whiskies. A*men Pure Malt Creation 2013 is aged in toasted oak casks to reveal a smoky fragrance imbued with elegance, intensifying a lingering note that is subtly peaty and exeptionally noble. Do not drink" From my personal experience I would be weary of when to wear this, as if someone who's into fragrances like me wasn't sure what to make of it at first, I'd be surprised if your average Joe would appreciate it like so many of us do. One thing I couldn't see anyone disliking though is the incredible dry down, which is on par with the perfect DHI for me.

It is awesome that Thierry Mugler has re-released Pure Malt in its new, improved Creation 2013 incarnation - a very smart move which shows that this great house is responsive to the desires of fans and aficionados alike, and as the original A Men secured its place in fragrance history I have no doubt that Pure Malt is equally worthy of status as a classic and in many ways revolutionary fragrance. Thierry Mugler Pure Malt is a great boozy fragrance, the most prominent opening notes are sweet whiskey and malt combined with sweet fruity accords, some green/earthy tones, and smoky woods. The whiskey note found in the opening combines with the malt note creating a boozy fragrance that is pleasant but it not necessarily smells like whiskey alone or malt alone, the combination of both creates a different, unique, and fantastic tone. The bergamot and orange described as opening notes, combine among other fruity notes, to the wearer, they just smell like fresh and sweet fruits. The coffee found in the mid notes, adds a soft bitter taste that adds depth to the fragrance and enhances very well the boozy notes; the patchouli adds a clear and distinguishable green note, not strong but noticeable, and, the cedar adds its aromatic woody note that is well known for. A few minutes after the initial application, Thierry Mugler Men Pure Malt reaches dry-down and with it, the musk develops joining the green patchouli; the vanilla seems to maintain the sweet tones initially created by the opening fruit notes; the amber develops a soft powdery tone which further improves the projection of the fragrance; finally, the peat adds its malt-like tone and bumps up the smoky scent of the fragrance. Once Pure Malt has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a sweet boozy, fruity, and woody fragrance with some musky and smoky accords. Thierry Mugler Pure Malt feels mature, playful, bold, casual, and pleasant. I’ve been really digging scents that feature a boozy type of aroma, and Pure Malt is beautiful, like a fine whiskey. There is a warm sweetness in the same vein as Pure Havane but with alcohol in lieu of tobacco.

On the other hand, this is a very well done entry from Thierry Mugler and is at least worth a try for a lot of guys.
