You can choose your aspect ratio, and also choose natural view or some special effects. The only effect I used was Tiny Planet for the opening and closing – everything else was Natural View.

In our initial test we were impressed by how easy the modules snapped together, and how stable they feel once they've been pushed onto the battery module. Not only do they fit together so easily, but the processor/touchscreen can be turned through 180º and snapped into place so that the subject can see what's going on. That ‘selfie mode’ will prove useful for anyone doing a piece to camera. The One RS with the 4K Boost Mod is closer to a GoPro in that it’s a dedicated action camera lens. You don’t get the same curvature and you can therefore utilise the full 4K resolution. The higher frame rate option also means you can shoot smoother action video or slow motion. The first decision you’ll need to make is whether you want to shoot conventional fixed-viewpoint 4K footage, or 360-degree video. That can be a tough call, because 4K gets you much higher (effective) resolution, while the 360 module gets you a less clear but more immersive experience.footage can be heavy on the file sizes, it is noticeable how much faster transferring footage to my phone is. Same with the live preview if you want to use the app as a larger interface with the camera. The only issue with Shot Lab is that despite it telling you exactly what to do to satisfy the needs of each template it’s very difficult to tell from the camera roll exactly which clip is relevant to each template. However, that screen is small. It’s dynamic, changing orientation and according to the aspect ratio of the video or photos you’re creating, but its 24x24mm size make it hard to use for anything other than making sure your subject is roughly in the centre of the screen. Despite that tiny size, it works well enough for doing a piece to camera.

The one minor issue I had, though, was that there was a good deal of wind noise when schussing down the slopes. Insta360 One RS review: App The importance of an action camera’s Core and processor cannot be underestimated. The new ONE RS Core is a beast inside and out, adding the following benefits vs the old ONE R Core: When shooting 360 images the Insta360 X3 is the better option, but not by a huge margin. In low light the difference is more obvious once again thanks to the larger sensors. For shooting standard non-360 images the One RS with the 4K Boost Mod is definitely the better option and the photos can match up to a decent phone in most cases. Software The most unexpected in-app editing tool was the beauty filter, which definitely isn't a feature I expected to see on an action camera. Called Face Filter, you can have the Insta360 app apply it automatically, or manually adjust the toning and brightening yourself. But even the beauty filter's lowest setting was an aggressive change, noticeably reshaping my entire face to make my chin smaller, forehead bigger, and shifting my eyes farther apart. These alterations were applied even if I only used the brightening option and left the toning alone. The Insta360 ONE RS (so many caps!) is a multi-camera with impressive stabilisation in all modes, its Twin Edition coming with both a 5.7k 360 double-sided lens and a 4k ‘boost’ lens. You can swap one module on the fly depending on what you’re trying to capture, the style you want and how much you want to tinker with footage after the fact. The advantage of this design is that you can switch between different lenses which allows you to have different types of camera in one setup. The One RS is waterproof up to 5m without a case so it can handle some underwater shots but don’t take it too deep. The Core Mod features a small touchscreen for manual control but the small size makes it difficult to change settings.

Is the Insta360 ONE RS a novelty or a serious filmmaking device? Unique in the market, the ONE RS is designed to appeal to anyone who would normally consider a GoPro yet yearns to at least have a go at 360º.On the front, we can see the lens, the microphone, and the front screen. On the upper side, there is the shutter button similar to most cameras, on the left side, there is the microSD compartment slot, the battery compartment, and the USB-C-Port connector, on the right side, there is the mode button to turn off and on the cam or change settings as well as the drain microphone, most of them can be changed with the touchscreen. You can also use the smartphone app to fully control the operation of the Insta360 RS, including changing from photo to any one of the motion capture modes. Not wanting to be a distracted rider, your pillion can change recording modes, start and stop recording, and take high-resolution still photos from your smartphone. It’s a big upgrade over the Insta360 One R’s HDR video, with virtually no evidence of ghosting this time. This suggests it may use DOL-HDR, where two exposures are captured in one read-out sweep of the camera sensor. In this same hazy sky scene where the GoPro had the upper hand with Auto shooting, the One RS's HDR mode takes an easy victory with a much more vibrant, less noisy-looking foreground.
