Description

The Pot Noodle brand is owned by Unilever, a company that sourced 99.6% of its palm oil sustainably in 2019 [ source]. Unilever is a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and is working to drive change within the palm oil industry. This dish gets most of its intense flavor from 2 cloves of raw garlic. Now that may seem really strong. And it is. But in Northern China, raw garlic is used extremely often, and we grew to love it. The hot oil poured over the top mellows it out a bit, but you still get that spicy hum throughout the dish. If you’re not in love with garlic like I am, you can reduce the amount you put in. Enoki mushrooms (slice 1/2-1 inch of the base off, and separate the larger bundle of enoki into smaller more manageable bundles. Cook until wilted; cook time: 30-45 seconds)

All your cravings will be satisfied with items from China, Korea, Japan, Thailand and more – explore by country of cuisine to find firm favourites and intriguing delights you’ve never encountered before. We have hot pot restaurants here in the U.S. as well, but we find them to be relatively pricey, and the quality varies widely. That’s why we prefer to make our hot pot at home. Equipment Needed to Have Hot Pot at HomeWe like to have our hot pot with a side of white rice, but eating rice with hot pot isn’t the norm. Many prefer to cook their starches right in the pot along with everything else. There are a few categories of hot pot dippables to keep in mind. Make sure you have a good balance of 3-5 items from each category to have a varied hot pot meal.

Eight out of the 12 flavours of Pot Noodle are vegan-friendly as they do not contain any animal-derived ingredients. The remaining four flavours contain milk. Some Pot Noodles are not marked as vegan as they are made in a factory that also produces non-vegan products and there is a potential for cross-contamination. In a small pot, heat the oil until shimmering. Carefully pour the hot oil over the bowl of noodles…

Most vegans accept that not all processed foods are made in a 100% vegan environment and accept the small risk of cross-contamination. It’s up to each individual to decide whether they are comfortable with this. Wood ears (soak to reconstitute, rinse any dirt or sand off, and remove any woody ends; cook time: 2-3 minutes) It’s deceptive, how easy it is. You wouldn’t think that such a simple dish could be that amazing, but with good ingredients (your favorite chewy noodle, for instance. We used this flat xi’an style noodle similar to what we used in our Beijing Fried Sauce Noodle recipe), it’s going to win you over big time. For a while, my mom was going on and on about this dish, and how awesome it was. Having never tried it, I made it for the first time last weekend, and it was a serious epiphanic moment. Where have these noodles been all my life? The fact of the matter is, no matter what protein you use, what vegetables and even what noodles, you’re going to end up with a bowl of slurp-worthy noodles as long as you use the Sauce recipe plus the same quantity of noodles + other stuff (veg, protein etc) so the flavour isn’t diluted.

We really enjoyed Lee Kum Kee’s Soup Base for Satay Hot Pot, which had a light seafood flavor and gave everything a rich umami boost. If that sounds right up your alley (how could it not be?!), keep reading! How They Do Hot Pot In ChinaWe also tried their seafood flavored soy sauce, which has oyster extracts in it to give it a bit of extra umami. One of our favorite hot pot chains in China is called Haidilao Hot Pot Restaurant (海底捞火锅), known for their superior service and dancing noodle pullers. Haidilao roughly translates to “scooping the bottom of the ocean,” which is a pretty good metaphor for scooping your ladle through the pot for a fish ball or tofu puff!

Unilever Pot Noodles: Partly influenced by my passion for food tourism as Pot Noodles are the U.K’s equivalent to Japan’s Cup Noodles. With 10s of flavours to explore. And somewhere there will almost always be a reduced price/half-price offer going on Pot Noodles. Shiitake mushrooms (Trim woody stems, slice, and add to the pot early, as they will flavor the broth; cook time: 2-3 minutes)There are twelve flavours of Pot Noodles to choose from, as well as three flavours Pot Noodle Fusions, five flavours of the potless ‘Lost The Pot Noodle’ and four flavours in the ‘Asian Street Style’ sister brand. If you love a sneaky Pot Noodle then try my healthier homemade version. So easy to make and perfect for lunch at home for one! Heat Source: We have a specialized electric hot pot burner that comes with a pot. However, any portable heat source will work. You could use an electric burner (coil or induction) or a tabletop gas burner. If you plan on making hot pot a regular event, we do recommend getting a hot pot set with a built-in electrical heating element—the pot is removable for easy cleaning. The company behind Pot Noodle is working to avoid cross-contamination and is aiming to add the vegan flash onto more Pot Noodle flavours.
