However, we’ll have to see what the rest of the rules in the new book change and if that makes this better or worse. The only strange thing is that it can only join Clanrats or Stormvermin and no Night Runners. Lady of Vines Warscroll Rules

Information is a prized commodity amongst Clan Eshin's population, and secrets are not given away for free. It would seem that Clan Eshin strives to increase its own wealth and power in the Under-Empire by lending its services to anyone willing to pay their exorbitant prices. They have yet to use the secrets they have learned for their own power bids, or to provide false information to their clients for their own benefit. [1a] Clan Eshin is one of the Four Great Clans of the Skaven which specialises in the deadly and secretive arts of stealth, murder, poison and assassination learned from the exotic Far East. Out of all the other clans which populate the Under-Empire, Clan Eshin is by far the most secretive and hidden of them all. [2a] These books will be available to print on demand until 6pm BST on the 6th of June, and you’ll be able to save money by grabbing all five together. At 170 points I think he’s probably just a bit too expensive. He might gel better in the new book though, Games Workshop articulated in the recent preview they see Skaven as a high risk, high reward army so the wide damage range might fit in just fine. It’s also going to depend on how subfaction affinity is going to work in the upcoming book. Clanrats The time spent exploring the lands of Nippon, Ind, and Cathay had served Eshin well, for the clan had gained significant training in the arts of stealth and assassination. The assassins of Clan Eshin are rightly feared by all Skaven. They come silently, dispense death with uncanny accuracy, and return to their warrens with their foes none the wiser. Their methods are seemingly supernatural, and the shadows appear to cling to them like spiderwebs. Those who survive and learn the greater techniques of the Art of Silent Death are promoted to Gutter Runners, who can sneak behind enemy lines and slaughter entire units of enemies, unseen and unheard. [1a] All of these fabulous floral fighters and carapaced cavalry are arriving alongside the latest book for the Everqueen’s forest-dwelling sentinels, Battletome: Syvlaneth, which you can expect to see more of in the coming weeks.

The box contains a solid assortment of minis for both sides, though it has been pointed out and fairly so that the Sylvaneth side wins out here. Its more elite, has far more points, and gets 2 new units (One character and a unit of 5) as opposed to the Skaven’s one character. The box is still a solid foundation for new Skaven players, with the Stormvermin and Clan Rats you need, along with a Gray Seer and the new Deathmaster to start building up your leader. Skaven Clanrats

Deathmaster Snikch – Shadowy Dealings

Like clanrats, these guys got their save integrated into the warscroll, starting them at a base of 4+. To differentiate them from just being better clan rats, they now get a 4+ Bodyguard rule, 2+ if the Hero is clan Verminus. Pretty great, honestly! Skaven lists frequently require a lot of very vulnerable, low wound Heroes to succeed so having a cheap and easily accessible bodyguard will go a long way in protecting them from shooting. Ultimately they still won’t be doing a ton of damage since they will still cap out 14 damage and that’s if everything goes through, but they make a respectable support unit that will probably make the melee versions far more powerful again. Conclusion

Each Skaven Great Clan gets special rules of their own, even in mixed legions, but the following applies across the board to all of them. Also first sighted setting charges on Holy Terra in the Shadow Throne box, the Reductus Saboteur is an Elites choice for Genestealer Cults armies in need of a little extra boom. This devious demolitions expert has the best bombs for any situation, whether you need to booby trap the battlefield or destroy enemy vehicles. The model comes with a choice of two heads, one of them heavily-scarred – handle explosives with care! to hit for all enemy units within 13″. The scaling with damage Peal of Doom range is gone, replaced with a flat number so this is at least more predictable. A key wording choice here is that it can’t overlap with another Screaming Bell, if you were to run 2. A supernaturally skilled assassin armed with three weeping blades – one clutched in his tail – dripping corrosive venom, Snikch was notorious for his ability to get into any palace, keep, or warren at the decree of his master, Nightlord Sneek.

When a unit broke in combat, hordes of cowardly Skaven turned tail and ran away with the deserters, meanwhile if the Horned Rat didn’t favour your dice rolls batteries of overcharged Warp Lightning Cannons and malfunctioning Warpfire Throwers exploded in concert, throwing singed Skaven around like furry confetti. If fortune smiled, Skaven armies could swarm over all, Grey Seers calling great Warp Lightning Storms to scorch and sunder the earth. Every game was an explosive treat and a challenge for generals. Affordable unconditional Battleline and a decent screen. Never expect much from Clanrats and you will never be disappointed by them. 4. Grey Seer on Screaming Bell We’ve got a full week right here on Warhammer Community too – starting with a look at all of your favourite shows on Warhammer TV. Using a host of weapons from the throwing star and blowgun to the repeating crossbow and an arsenal of poisons, these dealers of death are blamed for the majority of suspicious murders in both Skaven and Dwarf societies, not to mention those untimely deaths in the human lands by those who do not deny the Skaven menace. [1a] Eshin Infantry [ ] Finally, the 1 Mortal wound option has been dropped to just leave the D3 mortal wound option for every enemy unit within 13″ on a 4+. Not bad, especially if you move it into the middle of a crowd.

Rarely are their faces shown, for they hide them behind cowls and masks. Clan Eshin is not merely a den of assassins. Because of their stealth, their fighters are also prized as spies and scouts. Eshin sells its services to the warlords, offering skirmishers and light troops that can infiltrate the rear of an enemy's line to scout enemy formations or to dispatch leaders, wizards, and other valuable assets. Eshin also maintains a powerful cadre of informants from which they draw a great deal of useful information. [1a] Shut down command abilities within 13″ on a 5+. This one is entirely new and very interesting, whenever a model issues a command, you can shut it down on a 5+. It’s going to require a lot of set up to get it but you’ll probably be thankful for the rare times this does go off. Eshin Assassins - Eshin Assassins are capable of infiltrating virtually any fortress and eliminating any enemy. The Council of Thirteen regularly uses them to eliminate rebellious warlords and disloyal Grey Seers. Their services are also sold to whoever may afford the price demanded by Clan Eshin. They are capable of committing sabotage, like burning ships or houses and poisoning wells and food supplies. Operating mostly alone, they are also capable of concealing themselves inside a regular Skaven infantry unit to better slay an enemy champion amidst the confusion of battle. If you choose to hide a betailed betrayer in one of your units, you’ll note down which one on a piece of paper – and keep it hush-hush until you’re ready to reveal your Deathmaster at the start of any combat phase. Then they’ll pop out of the unit, landing silently within 3″, ready to stab-kill! If you're looking to start either a Sylvaneth or a Skaven army, this box is a no-brainer. It's also extremely valuable for those looking to round out either force, as the models included in here aren't just throwaways (okay, the Clanrats are technically, in terms of lore, throwaways, but they're supposed to be, that's how they're treated by their own Skaven comrades). If you're not interested in either of these two armies, then there are other box sets (like Arena of Shades, which we recently covered) which may better hold your interest.Points-wise, there seems to be a bit of a difference between the two factions, so it will be interesting to see what the narrative missions included in the box turn out to be… Kurnoth Hunters, Clanrats, and Stormvermin Rules
