Webb, Charles (1 July 2010). "Jacen Burrows: Neonomicon Rises – A Lovecraftian Tale". Comics Bulletin. Archived from the original on 10 September 2010 . Retrieved 22 March 2011.

Sequel Hook: Since each issue is fairly stand-alone, although connected by the arc of Robert's work, they tend to include hints of what Lovecraftian characters Robert will meet next. Harms, Dan and John Wisdom Gonce III. 2003. The Necronomicon Files. Boston: Red Wheel Weiser. p. 103 ISBN 9781578632695 Tears of Fear: Robert starts to silently weep when the ghoul King George is approaching him. Subverted, as the commonplace book entry reveals that his eyes were tearing up because he couldn't tolerate the Ghoul's revolting odor.

4. Batman: The Doom that Came to Gotham

Gieben, Bram (1 September 2010). "Choose Your Reality: Alan Moore Unearthed". The Skinny . Retrieved 24 March 2011. Issue 1, has Robert encounter the undead protagonist of "Cool Air", but believes he is merely suffering an unusual medical condition. Issue 7 has O'Brien complaining about Governor Calvin Coolidge, predicting he'll use the Red Scare and militia suppression of the riots and parlay that into a political career where he'll ruin things even more. Coolidge who once proclaimed "the only business in America is business" is regarded as a President whose policies paved the way for The Great Depression, scheduled for arrival 9 years later. The first issue, "The Yellow Sign" features extensive descriptions of Robert Chambers' The King in Yellow and has a Whole-Plot Reference to the Lovecraft story Cool Air.

Adaptational Sexuality: Many characters based on ones from Lovecraft's works are depicted as gay, although since most of them never had any kind of romantic relationships in the original stories, this is probably moot. Robert himself almost certainly counts, as he's indirectly based on Robert Bloch. And then, there's the landlady from Cool Air being a necrophiliac. Whatever Happened to the Mouse?: By the time of Neonomicon there have been over half a dozen "Heads and Hands Killers", but Issue 11 only shows Merill Brears freeing Aldo Sax and In 2004, Necronomicon: The Wanderings of Alhazred, by Canadian occultist Donald Tyson, was published by Llewellyn Worldwide. The Tyson Necronomicon is generally thought [ who?] to be closer to Lovecraft's vision than other published versions. [ citation needed] Donald Tyson has clearly stated that the Necronomicon is fictional, but that has not prevented his book from being the center of some controversy. [26] Tyson has since published Alhazred, a novelization of the life of the Necronomicon 's author. Dan and John Wisdom Gonce III. 2003. The Necronomicon Files. Boston: Red Wheel Weiser. ISBN 9781578632695 Shout-Out: The book is a Homage to Lovecraft and each issue features a Whole-Plot Reference to one or many Lovecraft stories and other Weird Tales:Sax in the mental hospital has carved a swastika into his own forehead. The mental hospital clerk refers to him as "Der Führer". How Lovecraft conceived the name Necronomicon is not clear—Lovecraft said that the title came to him in a dream. [4] Although some have suggested that Lovecraft was influenced primarily by Robert W. Chambers' collection of short stories The King in Yellow, which centers on a mysterious and disturbing play in book form, Lovecraft is not believed to have read that work until 1927. [5] Happens again in Issue 11 where the narrative travels almost 80 years to the time period of Neonomicon. Meta Origin: Nearly all the supernatural characters depicted are shown to be influenced by Hali's Book (the expy of the Necronomicon), either following its instructions on immortality or attempting to enact its prophecy. Willard looks more human than his brother John-Divine, but he looks middle-aged when he's six years old, and can warp cubes into a tessarect.
