Due to a technical difficulty, we couldn't benchmark the HX77G, something we really wanted to do. What this system promises is the computing performance of the AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS, an eight-core hyperthreading CPU mashed with the video processing capability of the AMD Radeon RX 6600M.

The physical separation of the primary system and graphics modules allows air to flow through the case easily, with it being pulled in through the sides and vented through a hexagon lattice on the top. Our test PC is equipped with 8GBx2 DDR5-4800 memory by Kingston. There is also a 512GB Kingston PCIe4x4 NVMe M.2 drive preinstalled, which is the lowest option for this system. It looks like the 30 series graphics cards are better at 4K resolutions than the 6600M on the HX99G. Cyberpunk 2077 Of course, Metro Exodus and Red Dead Redemption 2 are extremely intensive, so it’s no wonder that the HX99G struggles with them. Still, you can get seriously awesome performance out of this mini PC. Minisforum Neptune HX99G review: Software When discussing the synthetic benchmarks, we already mentioned the option to connect an external graphics card via Thunderbolt. But in the pure gaming tests, the configuration using the Razer Core X and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Tiis unable to deliver a convincing performance. Unfortunately, the limited bandwidth of the external PCI Express connection is demanding its due.

The HX99G features an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX Rembrandt APU. This processor is based on the AMD Zen3+ architecture, and it was the best APU AMD had when this product first came out a few months ago. Furthermore, it is paired with Radeon RX 6600M discrete GPU which has more than twice as many GPU cores as the integrated RDNA2 GPU into the APU. The RX 6600M is a Navi 23 chip (RDNA 2 architecture) featuring 1,792 cores, 28 compute units and 8GB of fast GDDR6 memory for its computations and display. Even if this had the same GPU power as the Radeon 680M, it would advantage the system by using its own independent memory, not impacting main memory bandwidth, allowing for much better parallelism. The HX99G is the highest model in the Minisforum lineup featuring discrete GPU. This is a small form factor system, but it is significantly larger than most 4-inch MiniPC, in fact, it could be just about four times as large. However, this system is not designed to be a work computer, but a proper gaming machine considering the form factor. Due to the AMD Radeon RX 6600M, the pure gaming performance of the Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G is good, offering about the same speed as the Minisforum Neptune Series HX90G . The faster SoC is unable to ensure a noticeably higher performance here. Compared to the Lenovo Legion 5 with the same graphics card, our test sample is very clearly ahead. The reason is the power consumption of the dedicated pixel accelerator, which is a maximum of 100 watts throughout with Minisforum. In terms of gaming performance, the mini-PC delivers a praiseworthy experience, comparable to that of a laptop GPU like the RTX 4050. This makes it suitable for gaming enthusiasts who want a compact yet powerful gaming setup.

Each piece of hardware has passed a strict quality inspection and met the factory's standards before it is delivered to Minisforum. In addition, there is no difference in the warranty policies of these hardware suppliers.I’m a big fan of the Minisforum HX99G. In fact, it’s difficult to find anything truly wrong with it other than some particular issues with my unit. For example, it seems like the model I received struggles with display output inconsistencies, where it simply won’t output to any monitor from any of the HDMI or USB4 ports. I never did figure out the problem, and I suspect a manufacturing defect is to blame.

Next we have three USB 3.2 ports, two are gen 1 and the other is gen 2. And last but not least there is a 2.5 gigabit ethernet port. Technical SpecificationsVisually, there are hardly any differences between the Minisforum Neptune Series HX90Gand the Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G. The case continues to be constructed mainly from plastic, with some added small Carbon visual elements. Internally, there is also some metal, which supports the stability.The workmanship of our test unit is good, although we would have also appreciated a higher quality selection of materials. With the Minisforum Neptune Series NAD9, the manufacturer already proved that things can also be done differently.The computer includes a stand that allows you to place it vertically on the desk. But you don't have to use it, since you can also operate the device horizontally without any problems. Minisforum introduced a new variant called HX99G in its Neptune portfolio today. It is an upgraded version of the first member, the HX90G (5900HX processor + RX6600M GPU), which was announced in May 2022 before going up for sale in September 2022. The Neptune HX99G looks practically identical to the HX90G. Measuring 205 x 203 x 69 mm (8.1" x 8" x 2.7"), both models feature 45 watts, 8-cores/16-threads graphics and the same laptop-class discrete GPU. However, it updates the Ryzen 9 5900HX with a faster Ryzen 9 6900HX and replaces the two DP ports with two speedier USB4 ports. The benchmark results are interesting. At 4K, the NUCXi5 and i7 models do very well, but if we drop down to 1080P or 720P we can see the HX99G performs far more competitively against the 30 series GPU’s.
