I also loved seeing more Medorans, Kyria, Rok and Zain were such intriguing, powerful characters and offered a new dimension to the story. My only reservation is Alex's classmate Skyla, her personality was that of a slow airhead and I found the way she was treated to be kind of sad. She really deserves better. so many things that did not work for me... I won't mention half of them, I don't want to whinge too much about what is, after all, a pretty good inventive fantasy series. Akarnae features shades of Harry Potter, a boarding school for magically inclined teens. With strong, friendship based relationships and a chosen one based storyline where Alex's world has been turned upside down. Each student enrolled at Akarnae is there on the basis of their unique magical abilities, except Alex who has yet to discover what her ability is. My only gripe was Alex's parents and how unprepared she was for this next stage in her life, even based on her attending the supposed International Exchange Academy alone Jarvis then gives her a Potential Pop in which she finds out that she is in the following for the subjects. The technology is modern and everything is explained by science, but at the same time they use torches and most of the school seems to be medieval. I disliked the names for the devices they used a lot. It just clashed with the whole vibe for me, and trying to forcefully call magical things scientific didn't leave a great taste.

She often reverts to sarcasm as a coping mechanism. She is intelligent and witty, but can be overwhelmed and trusts easily. She is devoted to her loved ones and devastated if they come to any harm and worried if they are in danger.

There are 2 dorm buildings. The Sir Carsus dorm is where most students stay and hold first- to fifth-year students. There is also the Lady Omar dorm, where all of the Apprentices stay. Each Dormitory has 2 students inside. They each have their own bed, dresser and bathroom. chemistry, society and culture, Species distinction, Core skills (supernatural giftedness by the way), medical science, history, etc. With all the high tech, I wasn't sure where archery and equestrian skills came in, but the rest made sense.

They are fun, mischievous, loyal, and help Alex to adjust to their world throughout the book. The three take to each other readily and become fast friends. In the meantime, she must enroll herself in the Academy, Akarnae, a school for the gifted. Jarvis explains to her that there are age-based classes and potential-based classes before giving her a lolly-pop to determine her potential. Then, during Scars and Silence (Jordan's story), Alex arrives to the Combat (that she shares with Kaiden) classes early, because she is looking for him, and he hadn't attended the past lessons. There were so many revelations throughout this book, whether its Aven wanting to unleash his fury on Alex and those closest to her (by the end my feelings were a puddle, truly, I did not see the betrayal coming, it just hurt!), but also where there is fear and hurt I know there’s hope, so I definitely am hopeful for a turn around with what one character is now going through! Also though at the same time, I’m kind of looking forward to the darker scenes? Purely though because I’m hopeful that Aven’s deciets and ploys will fail?! Either way, I couldn’t BE more excited to continue my adventure in book 3!A few weeks after the incident with Aven, Alex asks Kaideen a few questions about Medora's military and Wardens, and during the conversation sparks fly. Alex spends her nights deep in the Library under the guidance of her new and mysterious mentor. Alex is desperate to strengthen her gift as well as protect those she loves. Because being in a world where nothing is for certain, she can only be sure of just one thing: Aven is coming. Alex meets Darrius, not knowing he is Headmaster Marselle, in the libraries inner section. He helps and guides her on the rest of her journeys throughout the series.

Alex's strengths are "Determination is the face of adversity" and her biggest weakness is "(she) can struggle with bouts of hopelessness." It has become a safe haven where I can go to find comfort and cuddle myself, for I know what will be waiting after I cross the threshold and I can count on a hand’s fingers the rare cases to which this statement also applies. I won’t judge the book on the story since I didn’t even finish it but the plot was nothing intriguing for me. There’s a doorway that led Alice into a new world which has been read and seen before (ahem, Narnia) but this supernatural occurrence fell absolutely flat when Alice came across as an illogical human being who didn’t even understand how weird this stepping into a new world is. I think she was living in a bubble, which could’ve been fine if her age was resonating with her thoughts; if she was much younger than a sixteen-year-old, I would’ve let that fact slide but unfortunately, she wasn’t. The entire series is one of my favorite young adult fantasy series ever, the books aren't stand alone so starting here with the first book is wise. Its not quite right for the youngest listeners(there is a little bit of violence and war in this series) but its a series that would fit well as a family listen on a long road-trips or as a Sunday activity.Draekora” is the third novel in the “Medoran Chronicles” series, which was released in the year 2017. Aven Dalmarta hides in the shadows of Meya, and Alex desperately wants to save Jordan and keep the Rebel Prince from killing more people. While waiting for him to reappear, Alex attends Akarnae Academy, Medora's boarding school for teenagers with extraordinary gifts. She soon starts to enjoy her bizarre new world and the friends who embrace her as one of their own, but strange things are happening at Akarnae, and Alex can't ignore her fear that something unexpected... something sinister... is looming. The world of Medora is incredible. Lynette Noni described the settings, buildings and characters so well that the mental image of it all was real. I could see exactly what Akarnae was like and I was so envious because I wanted to be in that world and attending that school for people with abilities. Although there were some rough parts to the story that didn't flow too well she easily made up for it with her great range of characters, dialogue and imagination. My favourite part of this story is the Library. Without spoiling anything...it's the coolest library you're ever going to hear about! The main character is 16, but it reads like middle grade (so at least it's fine to recommend to those 10-11 year old girls??)
