Unlike the slightly more expensive Pure Air Go, the Riley RS1 doesn't have a companion app. This isn't a deal-breaker for us, as we find these apps aren't all that useful, but it's something to note. Riley RS1 electric scooter review: Verdict If you’ve never used an e-scooter before or you’re not sure which type to get, pop in and have a go on one of our demo models! You’ll be helped by our team and will be riding off in no time.

It’s easy to describe every electric scooter as ‘nippy’ but I really enjoyed the direct power deployment of the RS1 as I applied the throttle – it made me want to keep on riding, and also gave me the confidence getting going from a standstill. While the 350W motor provided a good amount of oomph, there were several instances where a steep hill would force me to get off and walk, which is never ideal. Other scooters with similar specs have at least managed to get me up a couple of these hills, even if they did chug along a little bit. All the while an LED display between the handlebars lets you know exactly what’s going on; your speed in km/h, your battery level in 20% increments (though an idea of the remaining maximum distance possible would be better), and your speed setting. It’s also far more environmentally friendly to replace the battery when it’s spent – or, more likely, to fit a newer, larger-capacity version – rather than junk the entire scooter. The RS1 is not perfect, however, as the battery in the handlebar gives it a top-heavy design, and the battery level indicator is pretty inaccurate. The Riley RS1 is a great option for those looking for an affordable electric scooter. It offers a decent range of 15 miles and a high top speed of 15 mph. The killer feature here is the removable battery, which makes recharging a dream, and cruise control is also a really useful feature. In terms of performance, the RS1 has plenty of zip from its 350W motor. Under peak acceleration, the motor can supply 700W which can get you up to a limited max speed of 15.5mph. The 6.4Ah battery can last up to ranges of 15 miles (25km) and has three ride modes, eco, standard and sport. The display on the handlebars is equally as good and is rated at IP54 waterproofness. This is good enough to ride in drizzle/rain, but you wouldn’t want it pounding down in jets. You can actually buy a separate rubber case to go over the display to provide some extra protection against the elements.

Where the Xiaomi does shine is the LED lighting system. It’s about the best we’ve seen on a scooter, having front, rear and multiple side lights for excellent visibility. This is an excellent development – you can never have enough lights on something that can do 15.5mph in the dark. The Riley RS1 gets around this problem by using puncture-resistant tubeless tyres, similar to those used by professional mountain bikers. The tyres are a decent 10 inch in diameter which gives decent ground clearance and excellent ride quality on all but the roughest footpaths. You can also run tubeless tyres at lower pressures than normal which adds again to the electric scooter’s ride quality – I weight 95kg (about 15 stone) and set the tyre pressures to a reasonably low 40psi at front and 45psi at the rear. Braking – it’s good to be able to stop! The handlebar ‘dashboard’ area is similarly clean and intuitive to use. The display unit at the top of the steering column shows your speed and battery life clearly. It also allows you to turn on the useful front and rear lights as well as to ring the bell! The problem with range on a scooter is that you need a big battery to provide it – the Xiaomi houses a whopping 13Ah battery (436 Watt hours) which means the total weight of the scooter tips the scales at 14.2kg. Not the lightest to carry around, but just about manageable. the battery comes with a two year warranty as well which provides peace of mind against degradation. The motor on the E365 is 350W average power and the voltage is 42V as opposed to the typical 36V seen on most electric scooters in this range of operation. This gives it some decent pep but uplifts the weight to 13kg. This is a manageable weight but you can definitely feel it if you are lifting for more than a few minutes. Range is better than average for this price point at around 15-20 miles maximum depending on your weight. I've found that's enough for short commutes and other short local trips, although the battery level indicator seems very unreliable – it would vary wildly during a trip – sometimes going up and sometimes going down. A double-tap of the function button switches on a bright LED headlight, which is positioned just below the handlebars. It’s also got always-on taillights for being seen from behind. They flash when the brake is applied.

For your money, the Riley RS2 comes with a powerful 350W motor, 10in pneumatic tyres and a 12.8Ah battery with a quoted maximum range of 28 miles per charge. There is also a smartphone app for the Kirin which is also well designed and actually useful! It allows you to remotely deactivate the motor of the scooter, set cruise control (meaning you don’t need constant thumb pressure on the throttle), search for Google Map destinations and look at the usual ride stats. As apps go, it was one of the best – and not the cheapest scooter in the range! It’s important to note that when shopping for gadgets and technology products, it can be tempting to go for the lowest price possible. However, be wary of retailers that offer prices that seem too good to be true. Some less reputable retailers may sell counterfeit or low-quality products, which can be dangerous and not perform as well as the genuine product. Before we go any further, it is important to clarify that electric scooters are classified as Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs) and therefore illegal to ride in the UK unless you’re riding on private land with the landowner’s permission. Offenders caught could be penalised and receive points on their driving licence. In contrast, e-scooters are legal in most European countries and US states. We recommend riders always wear a helmet and follow the manufacturer’s safety guidelines before riding. Another important factor to consider is longevity. When you buy a high-quality RILEY RS1 V2 Electric Folding Scooter, you’re making an investment that is likely to last longer. Cheaper products may seem like a good deal at the time, but they are often made with lower-quality materials and are not designed to last as long. This means that you may end up having to replace your device sooner, which can end up costing you more in the long run.

Once the scooter is set up, folding and unfolding is as easy as pie, its simple fixing ring and folding lever make it a 10-second job to collapse it for storage under a desk or on a train. Tehnične specifikacije To top it all off, its lightweight folding aluminium alloy frame weighs just 13kg, making it highly transportable! So on your next adventure, enjoy the freedom to explore with the RS 1 Electric scooter. The Riley RS1 Electric Scooter is the entry model from UK-based firm Riley Scooters. We believe that they are importing the Riley-branded scooters from China, but UK residents benefit from having a friendly voice on the end of a phone in the same country if something goes wrong. The handlebars are fairly standard, but include the brake lever for the left hand and a natty blue twist throttle to make the scooter zip off. The brake cable is coloured in the same blue and looks nicely coordinated. The throttle also includes a power on/off button and a switch to choose between different levels of maximum acceleration – beginner, standard and pro. This is useful when you first start as everybody tends to be a bit wary. However, soon you’re always switching to pro… LightingYet again, it’s important to make clear that electric scooters are classified as Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs) in the UK and are therefore illegal to use unless you ride on private land with the landowner’s permission or as part of an authorised rental scheme. A range of >15 miles is not uncommon which can cover a decent loop in an hour or two with a pint en route! But remember people – it’s best not to get drunk as a skunk and then scoot! Riley claims the e-scooter can take a maximum load of 120kg before the performance starts to drop off. The bright LED display sits in the middle of the handlebar, displaying speed, riding mode and battery status when you switch it on. The scooter’s throttle is located to the right of this small screen, with the brake and bell on the left. The wheels are 8.5 inches with puncture-proof solid tyres. The front wheel has an e-brake via the motor and there is also a disk brake in the rear wheel – this is reassuring!
