Updated Catch Cup- The catch cup is slightly bigger, given the larger hopper capacity. It is also now easier to pour out coffee grounds. The Fellow Ode Grinder review has fully discussed all you need to know about this great grinder. It provides you with a healthy beverage Nevertheless, café sized flat burrs aren’t necessarily ideal for domestic coffee grinding. That’s because a more powerful motor with a higher RPM is often needed, which creates more heat and noise while grinding. Of course, this isn’t usually a problem in a commercial setting, but it’s not ideal for the home. FLAT BURRS Professional-grade stainless steel flat burrs reduce grind time and heat generation while increasing grind particle consistency.

And what of the noise problem? Well, that smart speed motor means the Fellow Ode runs consistently under 60 decibels throughout grinding. Better still, it also contributes to an increasing grind particle consistency. Reduced Noise & Heat – With an in-line motor design there’s less force being turned into unnecessary noise and heat. REDUCED GRIND NOISEFrom high-quality materials to ditching the noisy gearbox, Ode was designed with quietness in mind. The Fellow Ode Grinder is quite stunning, having the usual Fellow aesthetics. It is remarkably compact, with a measurement of 4.25″ by 9.5″ by 9.5″. You shouldn’t have a problem fitting this grinder on your bench. However, its portability does come at the cost of a bean hopper. The Fellow Ode Grinder is designed such that it is a single-dose grinder. Hence, it can only hold a maximum of 80g of beans.

The 41 grind settings from espresso to cold brew coffee necessarily have large steps between them – too large to dial in an espresso. An entry-level user might be satisfied, but a serious coffee lover needs more precision. Ode knows exactly when the last bean has been ground and automatically shuts itself off. No more awful revving noise when your grinder spins on empty. Another design feature Fellow put a lot of thought into is the hopper lid. It doubles as a dosing cup with 20 g to 40 g compartments. You can also fill it to its maximum capacity of 110 g. The lid can be used as a bean measurement tool with a simple settings guide on the underside. This is especially handy for newbies, as it doesn’t require a scale.

Fellow Opus has a lot going for it — attractive design, premium look, and numerous grinding settings. However, you must make some compromises — the build is completely plastic, and the grind adjustments are somewhat difficult. Still, if you want to grind for different brew methods on a budget, this is one of the best grinders you can go for. Anti-Static Technology- The Gen 2 has new anti-static technology included in the grind chute to reduce retention and make it a lot cleaner to grind with.

Here's what our customers have been saying about us...

Fellow aimed to make this grinder more accessible at a lower price point while making it usable for espresso. To do so, Opus is plastic instead of aluminum, but it’s still good value for money. It’s significantly more affordable compared to the Fellow Ode grinder and performs really well for its price point. The Fellow Ode is remarkably easy to use. It has an on/off switch and a large stepped dial on the front with 31 settings ranging from fine to coarse. Grinding is as simple as weighing out your beans, selecting your desired grind size on the dial, and pushing the start button.

Nevertheless, if you mainly brew espresso, or other coffee using a fine grind size, the grinder may not be suitable. There is the option of the upgraded SSP burr set for grinding 200 microns finer than the original burrs, which allows for more dialing in for the finer range. However, it’s quite an expensive option. Ease Of Use You want a grinder with a hopper: If single-dosing isn’t for you, the new Baratza Encore ESP features similar specs to the Fellow Opus but includes a 225-g hopper and manual dosing controls. Engadget broke the news on Thursday that next month Fellow will be debuting a new coffee grinder called the Opus. For the past few years, Fellow has offered the Ode Brew grinder, one of the best in the industry. Both generations of that grinder use professional-grade flat burrs, with the Ode Gen 2 boasting improved burrs that can grind finer — but not fine enough for espresso, arguably the biggest strike against the machine.Open up the Opus and you'll find parts that come out, making it easy to clean — you kind of need to, and often, if you use this thing every day. (But more on that below.) It's fairly quiet, even though 30 seconds feels like forever. Fellow Opus grinder has 41 grind setting, which ranges from cold brew to French press. This goes from 400 to 1500 microns. Overall, the coffee grinds are uniform, and I have no complaints. Unlike Fellow Ode, the Opus can grind much finer for espresso. You can dial in and get a flavorful brew, but the grinds aren’t quite up to par with grinders made specifically for espresso. Grind Adjustment Settings
