The exterior shots of the early series were filmed primarily in and around East Lancashire, mainly in the village of Downham, but some scenes were shot in Helmshore and others in Settle, North Yorkshire. Two railway scenes were filmed on the East Lancashire Railway, but the main railway scenes were shot on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. [1] The South Bank was demolished in the summer of 1993. Its day had come: as far as I remember, you never wore your best trainers when taking a half time piss in those forever-flooded toilets. It had to make way for the impressive Bobby Moore Stand in February 1994.

When I was pregnant I said to myself I need to do something otherwise I would be just another single parent, on benefits and doing nothing. Rosie said: "At first it was daunting. It seemed like a huge responsibility, but as time goes on my confidence has grown." She added: "A lot of people in the East End grow up with low self-esteem and don't have high aspirations, particularly when it comes to education. The Ciffs Notes version of the show: Small mythical English town doctor and his family are the central figures in "B&B". Throw in a large contingent of supporting cast members. Expect some minor trouble that plagues one of the cast to be settled in a happy way by the time the credits roll at the end. I had opportunities through the voluntary sector and I want people to recognise these opportunities exist and to see people aspiring to more. Someone who knows all about the history and all the previous grounds of Thames Ironworks/West Ham United, is a mate of mine, John MacCrea. He was born and bred a stone’s throw from all the grounds the club played at before the move up the Barking Road in 1904 to The Boleyn Ground. I asked him, is the move a good thing? Julia Smith and Tony Holland created this amazing cast of characters – either East End born and bred, or Asian immigrants running the local corner shop,” adds Lamb. “Now, we are trying to relate it to East London as it is now – the hipster effect, nicer restaurants – but it is still very much Julia and Tony's heritage.” Church Street contains two of the early eighteenth century merchants’ houses that hint at the grandeur of this area at that time. The building (built in 1711) that is first visible from High Street East has “Angels’ Place” painted on its gable wall. This is the home of the Sunderland Hell’s Angels, and their bikes are often found gleaming in the sunshine in the street outside.
