Treatment should be reserved for infants with clear evidence of a clinically significant patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). If your child is already taking any other medicines you should get advice from your pharmacist before giving them Calprofen as well.

Very rare: Acute renal failure, papillary necrosis, especially in long-term use, associated with increased serum urea and oedema. If you have asthma, symptoms such as wheeze or breathlessness can be made worse by anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen. If this happens to you, you should stop taking ibuprofen and see your doctor as soon as possible. For Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (prescription only use): Doses up to 30- 40mg/kg/day may be taken in three or four divided doses. Very rarely, NSAIDS may cause serious blistering or peeling skin reactions (eg Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, exfoliative dermatitis). For this reason, you should stop using this medicine and consult your doctor if your child gets a skin rash or sores inside the mouth after taking this medicine. You'll usually give your child ibuprofen 3 or 4 times a day. Your pharmacist or doctor will tell you how often to give it. Monitor blood counts, renal, and hepatic function periodically for patients receiving long-term therapy. Where GI bleeding or ulceration occurs in patients receiving Ibuprofen, the treatment should be withdrawn. Zidovudine: Increased risk of haematological toxicity when NSAIDs are given with zidovudine. There is evidence of an increased risk of haemarthroses and haematoma in HIV(+) haemophiliacs receiving concurrent treatment with zidovudine and ibuprofen.

Usual Adult Dose for Pain

Careful consideration should also be exercised before initiating long-term treatment of patients with risk factors for cardiovascular events (e.g. hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, diabetes mellitus, smoking), particularly if high doses of ibuprofen (2400 mg/day) are required. Ibuprofen is a common painkiller for children. It's often used to treat symptoms of conditions such as colds, flu and coronavirus (COVID-19), teething, toothache, headaches, sore throat and pain from ear infections. Severe forms of skin reactions such as bullous reactions, including Stevens- Johnson Syndrome, Erythema multiforme and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis can occur
