Golden has also written the novelization of Steven Spielberg's Invasion America and an original "prequel," On The Run , both of which received high praise from producer Harve Bennett. On The Run, a combination medical thriller and science fiction adventure, even prompted Bennett to invite Golden to assist in crafting the second season of the show, if it was renewed. However, some confusing scenes give the book a patchwork feeling, as if it hasn’t all been edited for clarity. Ventress and Vos train for one mission the reader never sees, making the training scene feel out of place. She has such a tough facade and reputation, rarely letting it slip, even for a moment. Reading her in the more vulnerable moments, particularly when she told Vos the truth of what happened to her fellow Nightsisters, it gave me all the feels. Assajj Ventress is a queen. She's in my top five faves and I'm glad I got a conclusion to her Clone Wars arc. I think she made a beautiful revolution from padawan, to sith apprentice, and finally coming home to her Nightsisters. I love characters like Asajj, who fall on the line between good and evil, like Daenerys Targaryen or the Scarlet Witch. But the ever-elusive Dooku is dangerous prey for even the most skilled hunter. So the Council makes the bold decision to bring both sides of the Force's power to bear--pairing brash Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos with infamous one-time Sith acolyte Asajj Ventress. Though Jedi distrust for the cunning killer who once served at Dooku's side still runs deep, Ventress's hatred for her former master runs deeper. She's more than willing to lend her copious talents as a bounty hunter--and assassin--to Vos's quest.

Offscreen Moment of Awesome: During Ventress' and Boba Fett's team of bounty hunters attempt to rescue Vos, Fett and his team managed to somehow defeat and subdue Dooku, although he escapes before they can kill him. Reading Dark Disciple really feels like you're watching some of the best episodes of The Clone Wars." -- EUCantina

Nya clenched her fists. If only she had a blaster! She was an excellent shot. If any of the enemy attempted to board the ship, she could be of use to the brave clones now risking their lives to protect the refugees. Better yet, Nya wished she could stab one of the Separatist scum with her stinger, even though it would— Before we begin, I should also mention this book isn't like Star Wars: Bloodline or Lost Stars. It's not a book a causal Star Wars fan can just pop open and read. Instead, this book depends heavily on your knowledge of The Clone Wars television show. Much of the story focuses on popular villainess Ventress, Count Dooku's brief Sith apprentice, and is designed to wrap up her story arc that was cut short by the show being cancelled. I understand this book was supposed to be a few episodes on television and it's a shame they weren't filmed since I think they might have worked better on screen.

With the war showing no signs of ending, and the casualties mounting each day, the Jedi must consider every possible means of defeating their cunning foe. Whether some means are too unthinkable—and some allies too untrustworthy—has yet to be revealed... But the ever-elusive Dooku is dangerous prey for even the most skilled hunter. So the Council makes the bold decision to bring both sides of the Force's power to bear—pairing brash Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos with infamous one-time Sith acolyte Asajj Ventress. Though Jedi distrust for the cunning killer who once served at Dooku's side still runs deep, Ventress's hatred for her former master runs deeper. She's more than willing to lend her copious talents as a bounty hunter—and assassin—to Vos's quest. The Clone Wars have taken longer than Jedi Council expected and its end isn’t seen at sight. Count Dooku, former Jedi Master and now a Dark Lord of the Sith, is the leader of the Separatist Army with a vast supply of droids to battle for him. Even with the existence of a Separatist group of leaders from each race part of it, it’s clear that without Count Dooku, the Separatist movement would be left without its strategic mastermind. Based on unproduced episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, thisthrillingnovel features Asajj Ventress, former Sith apprentice turned bounty hunter and one of the great antiheroes in the Star Wars galaxy.

In one key encounter, multi-layered symbolism underscores new paths taken by a fan-favorite Jedi.

I hope her bravery brought her comfort,” Kenobi said. “The Mahran prize it. She and the others are one with the Force now. But I have no more earnest wish than that this tragedy be the last the war demands.” Taking You with Me: The Mahran have a stinger that contains a poison guaranteed to kill its target. However, the act of simply unsheathing the stinger reduces the Mahran's life expectancy to mere minutes, as the poison it contains will also be released into the Mahran's bloodstream and travel to their heart. For years, the galaxy-wide conflict known as the Clone Wars has raged. The struggle between the rightful government of the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems has claimed the lives of untold billions.

The only way to bring down the Sith's most dangerous warrior may be to join forces with the dark side. Internal flap [ ]Bait the Dog: Dooku initially expresses sympathy and gently tells Vos of Ventress’s ‘true nature’ but this all turns into an attempt to break Vos when he makes him relive his late master’s death. As is to be expected, there was a ton of action in here. I loved the various battle scenes, but also loved the quieter moments between Vos and Ventress. Golden does good work with other established Star Wars characters, too. Commander Cody only appears briefly, but makes a very important distinction when he says he’d rather see a friend turn to the dark side than simply betray people out of some more secular meanness. MTFBWY #7: Star Wars Books Editor Teases Future, Your Favorite Book by Siegel, Lucas on ComicBook.com ( March 11, 2015) (archived from the original on March 11, 2017) The plot of Dark Disciple is based on eight unproduced scripts written by Katie Lucas from The Clone Wars that were written but not animated before the show was canceled. The eight scripts were divided into two four-episode arcs that would have been part of seasons 7 and 8 of the show. The episode titles would have been "Lethal Alliance", "The Mission", "Conspirators", "Dark Disciple", "Saving Vos, Part I", "Saving Vos, Part II", "Traitor", and "The Path".

No spoilers since Revenge of the Sith happened but Quinlan Vos doesn't kill Count Dooku in the end. The thing is, the Jedi Knighthood learns a "lesson" about the evils of assassination and vow never to do it again. Except, in Revenge of the Sith, Anakin is feted for killing Count Dooku and they intend to do the same thing with Palpatine. They also send Obi-Wan to (successfully) kill General Grevious. So they learned exactly nothing from the events of this book. The Star Wars movies were really about the redemption of Anakin Skywalker. I really enjoyed Ventress because she is also working through a redemption story, just in a smaller, more recognizable way. Ventress was abandoned by friends and foes alike (both intentionally and unintentionally) for her entire life. She was a Jedi, a Sith, a Nightsister and is now a Bounty Hunter. But she always had tragedy. All of which is my lead up to saying that the new Star Wars novel, Dark Disciple, offers a welcome return to The Clone Wars era. I’ve been loving the vast majority of what Lucasfilm has given us in the past year, under Disney, with Rebels and those aforementioned comics and books proving Star Wars is in good hands. But It’s also really nice to see that yes, The Clone Wars era is still one that can be explored from time to time and has stories worth telling and characters we can and should get more follow-up on. The secondary question for old Extended Universe fans: Will popular Jedi Quinlan Vos bear any resemblance to how he was in previous publications, and is this Quinlan Vos' final act? Other projects include a slew of Star Trek novels, among them The Murdered Sun , Marooned , and Seven of Nine , and "The Dark Matters Trilogy," Cloak and Dagger , Ghost Dance and Shadow of Heaven . Following the meeting, Vos travels down to Coruscant's level 1313 to inquire about Ventress's whereabouts. At a seedy bar, the undercover Jedi meets several bounty hunters who are acquainted with Ventress, including the Trandoshan Bossk, and the late Jango Fett's son Boba Fett. Fett reveals that Ventress took a job on the planet Pantora, chasing down a Volpai fugitive named Moregi. Using this information, Vos travels to Pantora, where he stumbles upon Ventress' hunt. Due to Quinlan's arrival, Moregi managed to escape. After a tense reunion, Vos and Ventress joined forces to capture Moregi.
