The album also had a "NPG Operator" in between the songs (played by "Rain Invana"), which keeps the album running smooth.... The 1990s weren't kind to The Kid. As we all know, Prince just doesn't respond well to being told that he can't, and the disputes with his record label en route to starting his own lead to a homogenized, inconsistent decade ahead, not helped by Prince's wild eccentricities that got him seriously bad press during this period. So erratic a time, in fact, that it wound up creating the image of Prince as the out-of-touch, delusional former innovator we know today. Light, Alan (March 5, 2023). "Prince: The Gold Experience Album Review". Pitchfork . Retrieved March 5, 2023. Oh yeah, the Operator. Tying the entire album together is a voiceover introducing some of the songs as if they were computer programs, like it's some sort of machine full of..... automatic..... experiences, or..... something, I dunno. Okay, it's Prince. You know how it goes. Well, maybe you don't.

The album was produced entirely by Prince and released on September 26, 1995, by NPG Records and Warner Bros. Records. The album charted at number 6 on the Billboard 200 and number 2 on the Top R&B Albums. [2] The singles " The Most Beautiful Girl in the World", " I Hate U", and " Gold" charted on the Billboard Hot 100 at numbers 3, 12, and 88 respectively. [2] The Gold Experience was the first full-length Prince album to be credited to his unpronounceable symbol, and was released at the most public, heated stage of his battle with the major label industrial complex. With the word “SLAVE” written on one cheek, Prince shined on the opulent ballads “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” and “Gold” and the defiant single “Eye Hate U,” and the album earned widespread critical acclaim. Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA; Guillaume Tell, Suresnes, France; Record Plant, Los Angeles, CA, USA Then the 3rd and perfect album closer in "Gold", is 7 minutes of pure greatness...It was the second single, and in my opinion, it should have faired better....

The 1st one in "Shhh" is fantastic, with it's strong Drums, Keyboards, and Guitars (my Wife likes "Tevin Campell's " version better though).... The Gold Experience sold 500,000 copies in the United States and peaked at number six on the Billboard 200, failing to meet the record label's commercial expectations. According to biographer Jason Draper, it may have undersold because Prince was losing touch with younger listeners and also because his contractual dispute with Warner Bros. Records overshadowed the album's promotion, which he had done well before it was released. [14] Billboard Japan Hot Albums: 2022/06/22 公開". Billboard Japan (in Japanese) . Retrieved June 22, 2022. Producer, Arranged By, Composed By, Performer – The Artist (Formerly Known As Prince), The New Power GenerationGrove, Lloyd (June 7, 2002). " The Reliable Source ‒ Live Transcript". WashingtonPost.com . Retrieved September 16, 2011. Swimming not too far behind it is Dolphin which is another super playful yet more pointed pop gem that stands out moreso lyrically than for the purest melodic bliss of the song that it is tailing. It broaches furthest on the subject of spirituality, standing up for oneself and defying your oppressors, perhaps even relating to Prince’s own constant struggles with Warner Records. The imagery of becoming a dolphin, running into your adversaries and potentially having your fins cut off is potentially a little weird though. Maybe if Kevin Smith took this as inspiration instead of walruses he would have come up with a less crummier body horror movie and called it Bottlenose.
