Previously, King developed Pretty Little Liars, which was based on a novel series of the same name by Sara Shepard. It was on the air between 2010 and 2017, and it was full of drama, mystery and thrills; the plot centered around a group of friends receiving anonymous and ominous messages from someone called "A". The twist of who the mysterious online stalker was, was so stupid. That could NEVER happen. How were they supposed to get away with that? With what skill set? I'm confusion. It doesn't help that there were so many characters in here, each of whom had their own reasons and their own antics. Soon, so much was happening that it all became a bit muddled. It felt like we were just going in circles, and I had trouble keeping straight who was related to who in what way and why they were all doing what they were doing. It felt like a hot mess, honestly. Finlay Donovan is killing it . . . except, she’s really not. She’s a stressed-out single-mom of two and struggling novelist, Finlay’s life is in chaos: the new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an incident with scissors.

Read in a single night, applauding along the way. For anyone who’s ever wished to turn her life around, Finlay Donovan is the master. From failing everything, to succeeding brilliantly, she proves you only need to get mistaken once for a contract killer, to solve all your problems.” Elle Cosimano came up with one of the freshest, most fun, and interesting premises for a mystery this reviewer has ever seen. Her writing is terrific, the characters well-rounded and completely credible, and the story will grab readers and not let go until the end of this romp.”Honestly, my workday is not unlike Finlay’s workday. And that’s purely a function of motherhood and the demands of the working mom. This story ends in a fun way with the last sentence laugh-out-loud hilarious and so unexpected. I just love reading about Finlay's and Vero's outlandish escapades and the epilogue suggests there's more of them to come! Yay!

Vero was awesome. I love how she’s stealing a frying pan and a box of stuff at the beginning of the book but then ready to go all in with helping Finlay. Such a funny duo! I loved Vero and Finlay they had a good banter that kept the crime plotline light when it would otherwise be too dark for me to enjoy. Cosimano cuts dexterously between Finn’s adventures as a hit woman, her deeply iffy romance . . . , and the domestic crises that keep on piling up as if nothing had ever happened to disturb them. Suspenseful, funny, and even a tad mysterious. More, please.” Yes, romantic comedy/murder mystery is now a trope! And no one does it better than the single mom/writer/contract killer Finlay Donovan. He grumbled to himself as I knelt to sop up the puddle of grounds on the floor. I could picture him at their spotless kitchen table in her immaculate designer town house over a mug of French-pressed coffee, pulling out what was left of his hair.I needed to get ready for the third book in the series-“Finlay Donovan Jumps The Gun” publishing in January 2023, so I listened to the fantastic, entertaining AUDIBLE narrated by the talented Angela Dawe, whose “VOICES” were perfection!!

Q: This is the first book that you’ve written for adults. Tell us what’s different about the process. And the HOA is going to put a lien on the house if you don’t pay the special assessment bill they sent you in June.” And the shape of a plot is really the shape of a plot, no matter the age of the protectionist. What’s really different is the the experience of the character that I’m telling that story through. I’m asking the same questions, but those answers are filtered through a different level of life experience. Definitely the relationship between Vero and Finlay. That unconditional support coming in a non-traditional way I thought was pretty cool and a great message. A relationship does not need to be romantic to be fulfilling. The humor was spot on for me and the storyline entertaining from beginning-to-end. Going into this installment, I didn't even read the synopsis. I love her relationship with Vero. Even though they were sort of thrust together, they're committed to one another and I love that type of unconditional friendship. Finlay discovers that someone wants her ex, dead (other than her). So now it’s a race against time to find who’s putting this bounty on his head and bring it to a grinding halt, if for no other reason than to protect her children. Dishes out giggles, laughs, and outright guffaws in exactly the right amounts to help us escape the news of the day.” Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author of The Girl from Widow Hills and The Last House Guest
