A gameboard and dice make this skill-building game seem fun and easy. Little do students know, they will be practicing three different piano skills, keyboard, notes, and rhythms while attempting to fill their gameboard first. Finger games and songs are actually great for engaging circle time activities, just like action rhymes we see in young childhood. These movement-based activities are driven in play but offer opportunities for motor skill work, language development, comradery, and fun! A player loses if they are unable to reach a color, if their hand stops touching the paper or if their hand falls. You can make the game more complex by adding a ‘left hand’ and ‘right hand’ section of the spinner, increasing the number of dots on the board, or including numbers in the spinner and board. This creative and interactive app provides more than just an awesome piano lesson. It is a fun, game-based way to learn the basics and get kids and adults interested in the instrument. Follow along with the digital keys in this fun piano game.

Hand Jive – this hand clapping game was made popular by the movie Grease. Here’s how it goes: Pat your thighs twice. Clap twice. Wave your hands, one over the other, in front of your chest. Then do it with the other hand on top. Bump your fists twice, one on top of the other. Then do it with the other fist on top. Point your right thumb over your right shoulder twice, then your left thumb over your left shoulder twice. Play this songand put it all together to the beat! Pat-pat-clap-clap-hand-hand-bump-bump-thumb-thumb! This game is the same, only for fingers! We created a homemade educational game, Finger Twister Boards Here’s what it sounds like: https://nationalguitaracademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Warm-Up.mp3 Finger dexterity refers to the ability to use coordination and manipulation of objects in the hands with precision. Dexterous motor skills can be broken down into areas: grasp and release, coordination with in the hand (in-hand manipulation), and proprioception (knowing how much effort is needed to manipulate objects without dropping them). There are many other contributions that impact finger dexterity and we list these below.

Plus they do have a bit of sentimental value to me too now that I’m well over 200 posts into my blogging.) After grasping the object without overshooting or missing the item, it is necessary to position or rotate the object within the hand. Isolation of the joints of the fingers and thumb allow for precise movements and coordination when manipulating objects in functional tasks. Working on fine motor skills, visual perception, visual motor skills, sensory tolerance, handwriting, or scissor skills? Our Fine Motor Kits cover all of these areas and more.

You can turn any drill into a game by using game mechanics (see a few tips on how to do it in my post 1 WORKSHEET – 10 GAMES). Similarly, you can turn any game from the external world into a teaching tool.Landmark Landmines is my (and my students’) favourite landmark note game. The “exploding” spots on the game board have lead to many fits of giggles at the Colourful Keys Piano Studio. 8. Staff Clothes Peg Match-up Another great idea is to use paper and pencil handwriting games to create letters, numbers, or shapes and offer fine motor and visual motor work. a new generation of finger games Hand therapists work with fingers all day long. They use some great exercises to strengthen and rehabilitate the hand. Imagine trying to use these same exercises on a four year old. Place your right/left hand/foot (whichever has been called by the referee) on a vacant dot of the called color. All players must move the same body part to the same color at the same time. [3] X Research source Separation of the sides of the hand– Playing with finger games allows for range of motion and strength with separation of the sides of the hand. This separation provides grip strength and dexterity sides in functional grip.

Even Baby Girl wanted to get in on the fun! This finger dexterity exercise is a great way to “warm up” the hands before a handwriting or typing task for older children. Using handwriting warm ups prepares the hands for tasks like writing with a pencil.I created my own Finger Twister boards in Microsoft Word and laminated them so that they were more durable. I needed approximately 15 boards because I teach classes of 30 students. An official set contains only contains one board and one spinner. Another reason I created my own boards was it allowed me to include the name of the colors (for color-blind students) in text as well as numbers that refer to different questions. For me, a customized board was more suitable for educational purposes. Help students with their dexterity with this adorable twist on Twister! The bright colors make the game board cute, while the spinner and directions make the game a go-to for students to practice stretching and using their finger numbers. Arch development– In the palms of the hands are arches. These allow us to hold objects in the palm of our hands and are essential to grip strength. Moving the fingers through finger games can target this area, which in turn supports pinch and grip strength. I created Symbol Splash last September and I love it because it can be used so easily with students of different levels. Like any athlete, you need to spend some time in the gym to maximize your potential. While it’s essential to play the sport (or piano) and practice specific drills (or musical sequences), a little training can go a long way.
