Scotty meanders from story to story, writing in a style that feels like one long, amusing conversation flitting from anecdote to anecdote, told over a glass of good wine while taking in a fantastic vista. In that future age it will be easier to see that movie stars and celebrities were and are in the business of mystifying fact and generating stories about themselves. but of course preferred women - even unto his sixties and even in his seventies was rarin' to go, is definately interesting but belief shakes once more.

The post-War years used to be very decadent, but no one talked about it and so most thought everything was very innocent. To others who reviewed the book and questioned why sometimes Scotty has a lot of details and sometimes he doesn't - gee, I'm 51 and I can remember some things in my past really clearly and others not so clearly. Bowers' illicit activities were never detected by the authorities; he kept all his contact information in his head. A World War II veteran and Hollywood gas-station attendant describes how his good looks and open bisexuality culminated in liaisons with numerous celebrities from Spencer Tracy and Vivien Leigh to Cary Grant and the abdicated Edward VIII, describing how the lifestyle he embraced was part of a growing movement that contributed to the sexual revolution. I am not sure whether this is the version given in authoritative biographies, but it has the ring of truth.What I got instead is an all too graphic account of the sexual shenanigans of the author and people he has claimed to have whored or pimped for over the course of six or seven decades. Störte mich beim lesen aber gar nicht :) Sehr viele Details, die einen manchmal grinsen oder auch rütteln lassen. The only physical contact I want with another man doesn't extend past firm handshake, and Bowers goes way past that in his account. Scotty Bowers is the most honest person I've known, with the best memory for names and places I've ever seen.

Directed by Matt Tyrnauer and released in 2017, the documentary Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood recounts the book's themes, expanded by additional recollections from Bowers and those in his life.Recently, I was lucky enough to attend a premiere of Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood, focusing on the life of former WWII Marine Scotty Bowers. Surprisingly, since Scotty does not stint on details for the most part in this book, he doesn't get around, in the whole chapter devoted to this event, to telling us whether he himself did Hoover. I recommend the memoir with few reservations — especially if you are looking for a light read about a man whose free relationship with sexuality helped others live their lives to the fullest, outside of the limelight.
