About this deal

it was the first bingeworthy book i’ve read in a few months—I devoured it in 24ish hours (two sittings) and couldn’t stop thinking of it when i wasn’t reading. I was surprised to learn that Ollie is based on a real person and am dying to know who Sasha is inspired by. Absolutely no one cares that Melissa is deuxmoi because Melissa is just a regular person, which is fine and honestly good for her if she were ever to decide to ditch/retire deuxmoi). The finale of the book when Cricket has a revelation of what to do next kind of felt like product placement (or it’s a coincidence that it aligned at the time).

Meanwhile, Cricket constantly downplays their concerns and is more worried for herself, often lamenting how her life is going to be over if anyone finds out about the Instagram account. I think it probably helps that 98% of the celebrities are fictionalised, although there is plenty of room to try to guess if any character is modelled on a real person. like the other characters in this book, he doesn’t have any personality to speak of, and his most defining characteristic is that he is into Cricket).

Never gonna be a literary classic, but getting the inside view of the Deuxmoi juggernaut is a heap of fun! I would have liked to have seen more time with Cricket’s friends and her self esteem building instead. To access your ebook(s) after purchasing, you can download the free Glose app or read instantly on your browser by logging into Glose.

Then Smarmie Pammer turns out to be a vampire (which is like a really specific cannibal) and Cricket deuxmoi gets to espouse some thin feminism. As initially reported in May 2022, the project is currently set up at Max with a script-to-series commitment.

Cricket considers taking an offer from a media company that would allow her to get paid to run the account and quit her day job.

For nonfans, this autofiction is reminiscent of other of-the-moment bad-boss books like Leigh Stein's Self Care .

Fletcher Peters, of The Daily Beast, criticized the acquisition, writing that while she did not believe the DeuxMoi account to be actively malicious, the account's sharing of private details "is not the type of behavior that should be rewarded with a book, nor a TV show, nor the gorges of followers she's amassed on Instagram. The texts, messages and internet stories help show what Cricket is seeing on the screen and consolidate what a big deal it is. What a fun deep dive into celebrity culture, the cutthroat world of fashion and the digital landscape. Not knowing which parts of this story are based off true stories it was still a fun, entertaining , fast read. You can’t beat a good underdog story and a great reminder that a little courage can change your life.
