You have enough to think about when you're playing, so having a reliable pair of golf shoes that just get the job done are exactly what is necessary. When it comes to the right fit it is also worth considering different laces. Normal laces are good for most but for some golfers, BOA laced shoes provide more convenient fastening and shouldn’t loosen during the course of a round, but are usually a tad more expensive. The resulting traction is grippy in all directions. I have no real complaints here. As far as spikeless traction is concerned, the PUMA ALPHACAT NITRO is a solid performer. Functional and Fashionable Heel Cup When trying a pair on for the first time, listen for the 'whoosh' sound when you slide your feet in - that's the sound of all the air leaving the shoe to confirm it is the correct size, but do a walking test to be sure. They shouldn't pinch anywhere, nor should your feet be moving around inside.

I put mine on twenty minutes before the round during my testing and even kept them on whilst we waited out a weather delay in the clubhouse, and the Alphacat were just as comfortable on the course as they were while I ate my club sandwich and chips! Having said that, the new upper was firmer than in the Pwradapt Caged and this then provided a nice balance between a shoe that is ideal for use during the summer when the weather is better, but still gives you the support that you need.

Puma Alphacat Golf Shoe Review

The PUMA ALPHACAT NITRO spikeless golf shoes, Puma’s latest spikeless golf shoe with a nitrogen-infused midsole. Who Tried It: The Proadapt Multi Material Outsole is divided into two distinct sections, with an abrasion-resistant TPU perimeter that provides stability and traction on soft surfaces, whilst the central Crystal Rubber unit is engineered to ensure plenty of grip and a soft underfoot feel on hard surfaces. I tested the shoes in my usual UK Size 9 and found that they were pretty true to size, with a decent amount of room in both the heel section and the front box around the toes. Some brands try too hard to put their own twist on the golf shoe with no regard for performance. Often this shows up in what I refer to as “storytelling”, where a brand attempts to tell a “story” with its design instead of designing around performance. It might also mean you spend a bit of time hopping on one foot in the golf club car park trying to get these on too, as you can't widen the tongue section to put your foot in like you normally would.

With blue skies and sunshine when I arrived, some wetter areas on the golf course and then a delay due to torrential rain and lightning halfway through my round (that's Manchester weather for you...) you could say that it was a perfect day to really put a pair of shoes through their paces in a number of different conditions. Puma Alphacat Golf Shoe Review Puma say that the Alphacat is the King Of Comfort, so is that true? Well I don't know if I could say that they are without doubt the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn, but considering that these are what I'd call a mid-way shoe - in between a full spiked shoe and a real lightweight spikeless model like the FJ Flex - I think you'll do well to find a model which beats the combination of comfort and stability that they offer. Puma Alphacat Golf Shoe Verdict Our range of GS-Fast golf shoes take design inspiration from our much-loved “RS” line of trainers, but for GS we’ve added golf twist. With an outsole designed to offer superb traction, you can keep your foot-in whether you’re on tee-ing off or playing out of the bunker. Like most of our golf shoes, the GS-Fast are also constructed with a fully waterproof upper to keep your feet dry and comfortable even in adverse conditions.

Thankfully modern golf shoe design has seen many brands not just create traditional, classic-looking shoes, but also modern styles that can be used off the golf course too. Therefore it is important to think about what your shoes look like and what style suits you. Whatever you like or dislike, there is something for everyone these days. FAQs Are Puma good golf shoes? Introducing the new Puma Alphacat Nitro Golf Shoes, a spikeless shoe with premium cushioning that provides explosive energy and propulsion with each step.

Puma's all new proprietary ADAPT Foam midsole provides stable cushioning, utilising a mixture of the highest-grade EVA Cushioning and Styrene- an impact-resistant foam that provides excellent dimensional stability. The combination of the two materials provides you with both high energy return and ground feel. Nothing particularly stood out as being brilliant but neither was there anything which posed any distraction out on the golf course, and I think you'd take that from your golf shoes. Articulation geometry is behind the somewhat quirky name of the latest spiked shoe from Puma. The new technology allows the shoe to move with your foot while still providing a strong level of support. In practice, it works brilliantly and the shoes were a pleasure to play golf in. The styling is subtle but smart and Puma’s Ignite Foam provides a good amount of comfort and energy return in the midsole. I mentioned that the biggest change to the ALPHACAT NITRO is the addition of PUMA’s flagship NITRO foam. Often found on the brand’s running line, NITRO is an extremely lightweight but stable foam. This is just yet another good looking shoe from Puma - it provides modern styling without being over the top or in your face. The white and grey colourway was subtle, easily paired with trousers or shorts of most colours, and should have appeal to a wide range of golfers.Having no distinct tongue section meant that you almost have to use these shoes like a slip-on first, and then tighten them with the laces afterwards. PUMA’s ALPHACAT golf shoe has been around for a while. But now PUMA’s upgrading their mainline ALPHACAT spikeless golf shoes with the introduction of NITRO foam. Spikeless golf shoes offer off-course versatility. They are perfect for driving in the car to the golf course, playing a round, and then driving home again because they are usually light and comfortable, but most won't offer as much traction as a spiked shoe. On the sole, the contrast of the grey and orange lugs is a nice eye-catching feature which you get glimpses of whilst walking or in the follow through, as well as providing a handy visual indication of where Puma's traction technology is helping you out.

Connor. Director of Soft Goods Testing and resident sneakerhead. I believe golf is better with a pair of cool shoes and comfortable joggers. PUMA ALPHACAT NITRO Golf Shoes: Tech Talk The latest of these is the new Proadapt Alphacat, which Puma says is the 'King of Comfort' and is designed to provide the 'Alpha' of all spikeless shoes. What's It All About? The reason for this is because golf shoe technology is so good these days that golfers can experience the relaxed, lightweight comfort that these shoes offer, without losing out on traction or support in comparison to a spiked option. Put these two together, then, and you get a shoe which should give you the confidence to swing as hard as you like regardless of the lie or course conditions.
