The Auric Flamekeeper is one of two new models exclusive to this box set. Whilst these will no doubt be released separately in the near-ish future, collectors particularly keen to get their hands on some brand-new and original plastic will want to take note. The card range rulers in Fury of the Deep are much more likely to get bent, fray, peel apart, or just break. Whilst it’s cool to have some slightly different rulers, and good to see that waste on the perforated board from which the tokens and rulers are birthed (ew…) is being minimised, if I’m honest I think I’d have preferred some of the typical plastic ones over these. The story of these aelves is a tragic one. Teclis formed the Idoneth from souls prised from the belly of Slaanesh, but their corrupted spirits didn’t live up to the Archmage’s dreams. Unable to adjust to their new lives, the Idoneth fled from the powerful gaze of the god of magic, hiding in the inky depths of the seas. Thank you for the stellar advice, James. Taking their place among the aelven races of the Mortal Realms, the Idoneth Deepkin are preparing to reap a bumper crop of souls in the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. The other Namarti unit, but with bows instead of blades. Their bow now only has 1 ranged profile instead of 2 but it’s just better so it’s a good thing. Now it is always firing at 18″ with 2 shots 3+ hit 3+ wound rend -1 and 1 damage. They do get +1 to hit at enemies within 9″ which is nice if enemies stray a little too close or if they get bogged down in combat. With an 8″ move they can more easily choose when they take that bonus or when they move away as well but at 170 points now for 10 models instead of 115 I’m not sure if that ranged buff is worth it. For reference they now cost the same as Lumineth Sentinels which fire at nearly twice the range, out of line of sight, and dealing mortal wounds on some hits. Also the same cost as Blissbarb archers, and they’re probably at least better than Blissbarb archers. Also important to note that they’re now Battleline all of the time.

Stephan Kintzel – Fangs of Sotek: Standard double slann summoning list that skips Bastiladons to run a TroglodonThe Idoneth Deepkin forces crash upon their victims like a tidal wave of destruction, withdrawing like the ebbing tide when their grim work is complete. It’s worth mentioning they sometimes bring along deadly crabs too. Lotann is a weird utility character, first Catalogue of Souls has changed from +1 bravery and Rerolling hits for Namarti units to +1 to wound rolls for all Deepkin units within 12″. Much cheaper than the Eidolon of the Storm to get the same benefit. A bit confusing is the Fount of Willpower which lets you grant the effect of a ritual to a single unit once per battle. As written it seems like you would need to still be in the correct Tides of Death phase, which doesn’t make it totally useless but a bit mild compared to the Tidecaster granting 2 rituals. Isharann Soulscryer The Namarti of the Idoneth Deepkin are those aelves among the Idoneth Deepkin found to have withering souls, it is the Isharann Soulscryers who can discern and label what unfortunate aelves are born with this affliction. Without a new soul Namarti will not live past infancy and even those granted precious souls are destined to live a short life where they are little more than second-class citizens within the Enclaves. Most Namarti can hope to only live three or four decades, a meager and short life to the aelven mindset. [1a] [4]

Today we look at how to play Idoneth Deepkin of Age of Sigmar. Here’s how to hit those landlubbers like a tidal wave! First things first: grab yourself an Akhelian King. The Slap-King, as he’s known, is a fantastic finesse piece which can reliably delete the enemy’s biggest threats and almost guarantee you the This One’s Mine! battle tactic. Just be careful with your positioning and watch out for Unleash Hell and Stomp. All the wargear, as we call it, that is included in this set comes on a single push-out perforated board. These are the tokens and range rulers that are designed to be used to help facilitate play of the Fury of the Deep expansion. TokensThere is one very big problem with the Alloplex, though. The shark does not want to attach to its base. I am dearly hoping that the impending battletome takes these changes and makes them make a little more sense over all like we saw between Maggotkin Warscrolls and Allegiance Abilities. If the Flamekeeper didn’t hand out a 6+ ward ability I would have hope for an army wide 6+ ward to make some of this make a bit more sense. Competitively speaking this brings Fyreslayers down a couple pegs, an army which was already not competing without allying in Stormdrake Guard for the most part. Auric Hearthguard no longer protecting heroes and doing half their damage now to Monsters takes away one of the best tools the army had for facing Mega Gargants and is sad to see go. If I could put my grunts on 32mm bases, and was in-it-to-win-it, it would notably increase the effectiveness of that strategy / tactic.

In battle the Namarti Thralls fight with an array of weapons known as lanmari - two-handed swords, great scythe-axes or polearms of intricate design. The weight and reach of such weapons are useful when driving off the enormous sea creatures that bedevil the Idoneth enclaves, while their broad blades are suited to scything through the teeming swarms of predatory fish that seek to prey upon the aelves. Kristian Møller – Befouling Host (3-1-1): Nurgle board control with 2 Maggoth lords, GUO & Glottkin plus 3 MSU Plaguebearer units The Idoneth Battletome contains rules for six different Enclaves, each of which has a unique faction rule, and a mixture of relics, command traits, and spells. But by far the most important factor for the Idoneth are their Battle Traits. As ever, it’s festooned with incredible artwork. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, but Games Workshop never fails to deliver on its artwork.Cascalan’s story is a common one amongst the Thrallmasters – Akhelians who either feel suffocated by the strict structures and traditions of Idoneth society or have been ostracised by their fellow aelves and condemned to a life of raiding alongside the half-souled Namarti. He’s a nice model, too: covered in details and sculpted really well, his flaming axe really helps add to the overall gravitas of the figure. He’ll look smashing at the front of your armies. Auric Hearthguard Overall some nice changes for Idoneth as opposed to the Fyreslayer half which doesn’t seem to make as much sense at the moment. If you were making use of Allopexes or Reavers before then you’re going to have to make some cuts somewhere in your list to make these fit. Hopefully both of these armies see new battletomes sooner rather than later. If you’re more competitively minded we looked at what competitive armies and lists were doing leading up to Dec and Idoneth weren’t exactly top of the charts and none of this really helps them move into that space either. It’ll be good to see what a real 3rd edition battletome brings them. Eidolons come in two flavors, Aspect of the Storm, the Martial Variant and Aspect of the Sea the magic variant.
