Description

Too late, I recalled myself,” she tells the increasingly sceptical reader. “A reaction, of course, was what she wanted, what they always wanted.” Ugaz’s case is all too familiar in Peru, where powerful groups regularly use the courts to silence journalists by fabricating criminal allegations against them.’ This book gave me a real sense of otherworldliness. It is set in the modern day, there are planes and computers but it reads as if it is a long past era. It is well written, very atmospheric, the descriptions of the crumbling old country house, the remote but beautiful location, the freezing weather and of course the spooky goings on in this picturesque corner of Scotland. Beautiful yet unsettling and at times unnerving and claustrophobic.

It’s very clean and well appointed. Well equipped kitchen and large living room. Extra armchair would be useful for 6 people to be more comfortable. Consciously or otherwise, the flame-haired beauty, who has all the loveliness that our narrator believes she has lost, sees through the older woman. “People are always drawn to Maggie’s Pool,” she jokes – or does she? “Especially those with a dark past and a history to hide.” When the ex-teacher loses her rag with the fragile girl over a prank with the stuffed hares in the hallway, we begin seriously to question her reliability as a narrator. These delightful properties are set within the owners grounds offering a peaceful escape. Each boasting an abundance of character and charm and has been developed with the utmost care and attention providing the perfect mix of traditional features and contemporary luxury. The family bathroom is also upstairs, a stylish sleek room which has a luxury hotel feel. There's a bath for those who love a long hot soak on holiday and a shower overhead. There is a triple aspect open plan kitchen/dining room with fitted base and eye level units, granite worktops with upstands, an island with built-in cupboards, Belfast sink, breakfast bar and two under counter fridges, integrated Miele appliances including five combi ovens, dishwasher, four-door Aga and walk-in pantry.Cottage is in an excellent position right in the centre of town and really easy to get everywhere using Chipping Norton as your base." I was sent an ARC of this creepy, modern gothic novel by Book Break in exchange for an honest review.

Sally Hinchcliffe’s Hare House is a modern-day witch story, perfect for fans of Pine and The Loney. We walked through a landscape bleached with frost, the earth standing hard and frozen. Ice crept everywhere. Even the streams had begun to freeze, ice fingering out from their edges, tombing them over. Yet the cold left me feeling alive, as if we were indeed the only things out there that were still living, the only things moving in the whole landscape.’’ Please note there is a step on entry to the property and there are steps from the lounge to the kitchen area as well as stairs to the first floorNot really sure what to make of this one and it seems a few other people have voiced the same opinion. I did listen to this as an audiobook and I think the narrator did a great job which helped to make this more engaging than it might have been otherwise. And the language! The writing! Crisp as fresh snow, sharp as broken glass, not a sentence wasted, not a word out of place. village which was registered for protestant worship in 1802. (fn. 107) Apparently later disbanded, the I didn’t sympathize with any of the main characters and the side characters were hard to tell apart. Too many plot points were never explained, and the book seemed to feed into stereotypes without challenging them in any way. I don’t need my books to promote good morals and I usually enjoy an unreliable narrator, but I at least was hoping she would be challenged on her extremely problematic views in some way by anyone at all in the text and she really wasn’t. Thank you for this lovely review and we're so glad you enjoyed your Christmas at Hare House. We're sorry you encountered an issue with parking - Chipping Norton is such a popular village - but we will certainly pass on your suggestion regarding recommendations for parking.
