I could never get the pressure in my one just right, it was always either too hard or too soft, added to that it smelt of rubber and it rocked when I rolled over. This is the top of the mat and it stops your sleeping bag from slipping off the mat, which is perfect for when you are pitched up on a slope and would normally wake up finding yourself having slid down or off the mat in the night. Thankfully I bought it as extra cushioning to go on top of a single air bed for which it does add comfort for a side sleeper but I wouldn't have bought it for wild camping as an only protection from sleeping on the ground. Has a nice feature of a one way valve which can be twisted round, so inflating air can’t get out, but best of all, when squeezing air out it can’t get back in, so really easy to get to smallest package possible without a battle. I appreciate that not everyone is happy with the comfort or insulation levels provided by a 12mm foam mat, or want a great roll of foam strapped to their rucksack, but I have found it fine, even for bitterly cold winter camping directly on top of snow.
