While Kate doesn’t know Jay particularly well “his strawberry blond hair and kind face are part of the fabric of her days at the paper and somehow soothing” (119). How is Jay able to calm Kate? What role does he play in the protests? Why is the lido important to him?

Aside from her writing, Libby has led campaigns to demand fairer internships and has spoken in parliament and on TV in support of fair pay for people working as interns. she is also an avid swimmer and can always be found trying to find new swimming spots in London where she makes her home. But when a local developer attempts to buy the lido for a posh new apartment complex, Rosemary’s fond memories and sense of community are under threat. Everything begins to change the day that Kate is given a job covering a story about the lido, tossing a leaflet with “Save our lido” written on the outside. She reads their plea; the council has declared that due to financial worries they are considering a private bid to buy the building from a corporation who wants to turn it into a gym for private members. Finally, a real story; she hopes she can help, make a differenceThis summer's poolside must-read... a timeless tale of friendship, love and chilly swims. It may be about freezing-cold water but it will give you a warm glow. -- Andreina Cordani * DAILY MIRROR *

Cuando una persona se derrumba. Crees que los huesos y la piel son un buen andamiaje, pero cuando una persona se derrumba te das cuenta de que no estamos construidos con un material lo bastante fuerte. For the longest time, they had been like sisters rather than friends even though things have gone downhill in the recent past as the two girls grew apart. Will they be able to fix things or have they reached a point of no return? Your descriptions of life in Brixton from the lido to the market stalls are incredibly vivid and written with great affection. Did you base those descriptions on time spent at there? Do you still visit Brixton? Are there any other places in London that you love?Y por supuesto menciones a libros como por ejemplo: ”El guardián entre el centeno, Una historia de Brixton, Poemas para una vida.” Some readers are disturbed by blue language and sex scenes. Though the story isn’t entirely devoid of these, there’s very little of it. The text is accessible to anyone with a high school education. Kate, 26, and a journalist, has recently moved to Brixton, but is struggling to feel at home in the bustling capital, and is finding it a lonely and isolating experience. One thing I've had to adjust to is the amount of time you spend on your own. I don't think I appreciated that. I'm very fortunate to be writing full-time but it's a very isolating activity. You have to sit down and write it on your own. I've had to say no to social things so I'd have the time to do it. You also have to prepare for this, making sure you get out and see people when you're not writing. This is a novel of loneliness, friendship, aging, love, and loss. The writing flows as effortlessly as water in a pool. The descriptions are vivid - so vivid that you can almost smell the chlorine and taste the character's salty tears.
