She pulls out her well-worn tarot deck—wolf, dream, wind, sun—and whips up an unconvincing sandstorm about how “the dream was never over, the dream has just begun,” while Fleetwood Mac increasingly resembled an inescapable nightmare. In a 1981 interview with BAM magazine, Nicks reported that her original three submissions for Mirage were "That's Alright" (with the working title "It's Alright"), "If You Were My Love", and "Smile at You", although she said that Buckingham had encouraged her to replace the latter song with a different composition. Mirage is the 13th studio album by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, released on 18 June 1982. Fleetwood Mac’s internecine relationships and betrayals outdid any soap opera, though by 1982, they had plotted almost every conceivable love triangle and finally found partners outside the group. Originally released on VHS and CED videodisc in 1983, many tracks were edited out, with the loss of "Second Hand News", "Don't Stop", "Dreams", "Brown Eyes", "Oh Well", "Never Going Back Again", "Landslide", "Sara", and "Hold Me", reducing the 135 minute show to just 80 minutes on cassette.

Apart from a very very small scuff on one corner of the cover, this album looked and played as if it was brand new,it was in mint condition. Three of these tracks, "Second Hand News," "Brown Eyes," and "Hold Me" would later be officially released on the expanded 1980 Fleetwood Mac Live album in 2021. It’s the polar opposite of Tusk’s title track, where the three singers hissed their spurned collective demands. Fleetwood Mac's 'Mirage' Is Getting a Deluxe Reissue Read More: Fleetwood Mac's 'Mirage' Is Getting a Deluxe Reissue".

Buckingham in particular is hell-bent on leaping back several decades to escape all this mess: “Standing in the shadows, the man I used to be/I want to go back,” he growls on the peppy “Can’t Go Back.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Like Rumours and Tusk before it, this box set version of Mirage includes a vinyl copy of the album, which is disc five. Three of Lindsey Buckingham's five contributions were written with co-producer Richard Dashut including the UK top-10 single " Oh Diane". Regarding the album itself in my opinion "Mirage" is fairly underrated and "Tango in the night" way overrated.

The clip was not included in the 9-track edit of Nicks' "White Wing Dove" live concert VHS release in 1982, and neither was it included in the DVD supplement to her 2008 retrospective Crystal Visions – The Very Best of Stevie Nicks. Having accepted that the band weren’t interested in “shaking people’s preconceptions of pop,” as he sniffed to any reporter who would listen, Buckingham resolved that Fleetwood Mac’s next album should be a proper group effort. The latter version was (initially) used in the video, and was not available on CD until the release of 1992's retrospective box set 25 Years – The Chain. This expanded reissue features a remaster of the original album, 13 live tracks, B-sides, outtakes, plus other songs that did not make the final cut. There’s a similarly nostalgic optimism to Donald Fagen’s The Nightfly, also released in ’82: Where Vietnam and Korea cast an ominous pall over Fagen’s paradise, Fleetwood Mac’s collective mania makes Mirage feel like fiddling while Rome burns.
