Ruby is devastated as she was confident that she would win it if they both could not 'wangle one' together.

And once again allow me to salute your subtle genius that still, books and books later, goes almost completely undiscovered. JACQUELINE WILSON is an extremely well-known and hugely popular author who served as Children's Laureate from 2005-7. The twins have their own secret language, and they don't like to make friends at school because they have each other. The cover of the book is brightly coloured which made me pick it up as I thought it looked a fun book to read. And gradually, they find that being the same isn’t the same anymore… This moving, skilfully-told story of family and identity vividly shows the struggles that children, and twins in particular, can face in embracing their own individuality and potential for change. They sit the entrance exam, but Ruby is disgusted by Garnet's descripted and mature writing but remains confident they will both pass. The twins face many difficulties, from changing schools, to stepping out from a siblings shadow, and even dealing with a new step mother. There are only two choices left to Rose: frame Ruby for murder and have her locked away in Borstal, or just up and kill her. If not for that, I probably never would have discovered Jacqueline Wilson - I missed these books when I was young, and they're not the sort of things I would have otherwise stumbled upon as an adult.

The girls also find that there is a huge fee that needs to be paid for the pair of them, something which their dad cannot afford. She encourages them when Ruby announces her plan to go to the audition with Garnet, only it is Richard who foils everything this time. The twins send a letter to A headteacher from a boarding school however only one of them gets to go. Jacqueline is one of the nation’s favourite authors, and her books are loved and cherished by young readers not only in the UK but all over the world.A great read for KS2 students; the story of Garnet and Ruby is a brilliant example of how to overcome the problems of everyday life. This book was very interesting to read even though i read it in primary i still enjoy the book i think it was a funny and interesting book i had lots of fun reading this and i would recommend to everyone it was a brilliant book i love it. Oh, what I will read in the chase for that elusive and dubious honour of having read all the BBC's Big Read books.

I feel as though Wilson books are a must in the lives of young children, a way of opening their eyes to the real world in the right way. Double Act was "Highly Commended" runner up for the annual Carnegie Medal from the British Library Association, recognising the year's best children's book by a British subject. The book takes the form of the twins alternately narrating the story of their life in an Accounts book. They play pranks on Rose and in the end decide to go for an audition for acting because Ruby wants to be an actress in the future but Garnet doesn't want to be.It appears that ruby is the twin that makes all the decisions and it is Garnet that follows her lead. The twins have a row early on in the book, and Rose tempts Garnet downstairs with a kids movie and chocolate. Throughout the entire book it's clear that Richard is going through a sort-of early-onset mid-life crisis. After finding out that passive acceptance of their antics doesn't go very far in winning them over, she uses her numerable wits to surmise that the best way to defeat them is to divide and conquer.

Richard - no doubt named so for being a prize dick - is one of the most selfish parents in the Wilson-verse. His form of selfishness is just a bit more subtle than the likes of Sue from Diamond Girls, or Tracy Beaker's mum Carly. She and Garnet start off well in school, but once Garnet makes a new friend, Ruby sulks and Garnet quickly changes to stop her feeling upset. I think WIlson has used her strengths well in this book and has really gone to town with the idea of the twins losing their mom and being like chalk and cheese (Completely Different) !Having failed the audition ruby decides that she wants to go to boarding school because of the stage and velvet curtains, but Garnet is not so keen. Clare's, and is keen for the two of them to go ahead and audition, even though Garnet declines and their father doesn't agree. I don’t know how I feel about the girls, Ruby seems very much self centred and Garnet is certainly overpowered by her “older” sister; even though they’re identical twins. Double Act is about 2 twins and there mum died when they where little and they live with their dad and Nan.
