Description

The text, beautifully written by Dylan Thuras and Rosemary Mosco unfurls your imagination over 100 pages of quirky, curious places and facts hidden in the nooks and crannies of our amazing planet. Open the book, let the magic unravel, and allow your spirit to soar in the enchanting world meticulously curated by Atlas Obscura. The bestselling book that celebrates wonder all around the world and in our backyards, now in an updated second edition with more than 120 brand-new destinations to explore, new city guides, and a full-color gatefold map. The book not only features factoids about each of these sights, but also its longitude and latitude, geographical attributes and cool trivia.

This book provided entertaining and fun information that I really enjoyed but the illustrations were a disappointment for me. I adore this book, and I can only hope that the authors publish a second book with new findings in the future.

A book to dip into and out if without having to get involved in story lines - relaxing in other words. It's packed with places kids (and adults) will find fascination, along with many bite-sized facts for the budding trivia buffs. And having read several cool-blog-got-a-book-deal books, this is decidedly in the better half of that genre, which tends to be shit, because blogs and books are very different media, and they often can’t be translated from one to the other. But proceed with caution: Its almost impossible not to turn to the next entry, and the next, and the next. The funny thing is, though my parents were sure to take me to several tourist destinations while we were abroad, I usually didn't seek out such places myself.

Wonderfully done, with neat little sections on the individual site and directions and pictures, this is a world traveler's dream. This book should be read wherever you find yourself right now, at a bus stop, in the schoolyard or even at the kitchen table. Can you imagine living in Mongolia and having someone bring a library to you on the back of a camel? Para curiosos de los lugares tétricos y con historia de cada país, esta guía resultará bastante util: cementerios, fábricas, ruinas detenidas en el tiempo, túneles, refugios. For a reader attempting a cover-to-cover read, the effect is that you trudge through a lot of dull material to get to the good stuff. The book is beautifully illustrated and focusses on all the weird and wonderful places, that makes the world of travel so interesting. Aside from the dumb relativism ("You can travel halfway around the globe to see an incredible sight, then discover that there's something just like in your own neighborhood. Illustrated in gorgeous and appropriately evocative full-color art, this book is a passport to a world of hidden possibilities. Can't fault any part of the transaction so big thanks to the Seller for a smooth and pleasant transaction. Then, while in Mexico, tour the fantastical Naica caves, home to crystals ten times larger than the average person—then, turn the page to Vietnam to a cave so vast you could fly a 747 through it.
