About this deal

Uncompromising performance, ease-of-use, and great looks to boot - the Juin Tech GT-F brakes tick all the boxes. Well provided you can look past the fact Juin Tech isn't an established brand – at least not in the UK where this review is being written – you should be smiling with these R1 anchors. In contrast to a mechanical brake, both brake pistons of the JUIN F1 move evenly in a movement parallel to the brake disc. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

I can't speak to the SRAM piece of the equation, but I can't imagine it's *that* different from Shimano. When working well they are ok but they seem to need regular adjustment and loose bite quite regularly. Rim brake shifters and hydro calipers interest me, but as you guys say, the routing will probably make be a journey in to irritation. The Juin tech F1 hydraulic cable pull road disc brake set offers a unique solution to the rider wanting to upgrade from mechanical cable pull disc brakes. This reduces costs (no new brake fittings) as well as the time required and at the same time increases braking performance. The GT hybrid hydraulic disc brakes offer the stopping power and modulation of hydraulic disc brakes, but are cable-actuated, which means they are compatible with your existing rim brake shifters and groupset. Although not directly related to fitting Juin Techs, I've noticed that I seem to have more problems getting a low friction cable run to my rear brakes (not integrated) with stiff compressionless brake outers like Jagwire Elite than I do with traditional spiralled cable like the SRAM stuff.

No had a chance to test it yet but just applying it in the garden nd it seemed to be a bit sharper than the Hayes, hopefuly I’ll get the rear fitted tomorrow and use them at the weekend. They came completely disassembled so had to put the whole thing together and fill and bleed the cables.Hydraulic pistons are actuated by a normal brake cable - so you can keep your existing rim brake shifters. In the box, you get a set of brake calipers in a choice of bling anodized finishes: JuinTech sent us the red. The package includes a pair of brakes (pads included), 2 flat mount adapters, 2 160 mm discs + screws. In terms of functionality, simplicity to install/adjust, weight and cost they seem to be pretty much the best thing out there.

Unfortunately I’m in no position to answer if they are better than Trp Hy/Rd stopping wise and I’m fairly sure a full hydro system would be much much better but overall I’m happy with them. The Juin tech F1/M1 hydraulic cable pull disc brake set offers a unique solution to the road/gravel/cyclocross/MTB rider wanting to upgrade from mechanical cable pull disc brakes. It can be achieved in less than 30mins and completely avoids the hassle of bleeding hoses, recabling STI levers or similar issues. On the other hand, there’s a lot more metal in there than the old Hope calipers by the looks of it which might keep them cool. These things made my cable actuated disc brakes, on my new gravel bike, bell “exactly” like the thoroughbred hydraulic brakes on my hybrid bike.Braking performance is enhanced over a mechanical disc brake and the caliper has easy pad and cable adjustment. The GT-F are compatible with Shimano and SRAM too though, and I can imagine would be an attractive proposition for anyone looking to port their high-end Di2 or eTAP groupset to a new disc brake frame. So saying – I’ll be treating the Tripster over the next few months with an upgrade to shimano full hydraulic / 11 speed, which I’m looking forward to. So they’re a closed system then, wonder how well they’d cope on the road, seeing as C2’s could expand tot he point of locking up I’m imagining a road bike will be worse?
