Just days after the launch of the new two-channel DDJ-FLX4 controller, Pioneer have announced an upgrade to the larger model in the versatile FLX range. Pitch bending and scratching feels natural thanks to the large jog wheels, which are the same size as those on the flagship CDJ-3000 multi player. The DDJ-FLX6-GT includes all the features of the original unit including Merge FX, which makes it easy to hype up the audience and mix songs from totally different genres. As the Flex is dual platform, the unit offers Dual Deck Controls – making four deck mixing and transitioning simple and effective. The Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX6 is a 4-channel DJ Controller that boasts new features, a unique style, fresh looking layout, full-sized jog-wheels, use of pro-sounding scratch effects, and the ability to mix tracks from different genres effortlessly.

If you’re using Rekordbox DJ there are over 9,000 possible effect and sample patterns – giving you multiple drop options. A Sample can be fired upon release to end the track, so all that needs is hitting play on the other deck to introduce the next track into the set. The VirtualDJ software will also be available to use with the original DDJ-FLX6 (black/white models) by updating the unit to the latest firmware version, and TRAKTOR PRO 3 will be available to use with either model by downloading the mapping files (TSI file). Originally codenamed DDJ-600 internally at Pioneer DJ, the Flex - as it’s now known – has been developed to enable complex transitions between genres for DJs whose musical taste, or that of the dancefloor, is fluid. Increase the influence of the effect by simply turning the knob — depending on the preset pattern you’ve chosen, the combination of different effects and samples is triggered at the same time.The four-channel DDJ-FLX6 is to be replaced by the FLX6-GT, the GT apparently standing for Graphite in reference to the new colour scheme. Use Jog Cutter to apply a professional sounding scratch effect to the last Hot Cue or playback position by merely moving the jog wheel. There are four channels at play, so ultimately tracks can be played on decks 1 and 2 whilst scratching can be on 3 and 4. Sample Scratch is a new pad mode in rekordbox which allows you to select sounds that have been assigned to the sampler and then load them on to the decks, which allows you to scratch with your favourite sounds. The DDJ-FLX6 has two really powerful features to help DJs jump from one BPM range to another Merge FX and the Jog Cutter.

The layout of the controls on the DDJ-FLX6-GT is the same as its predecessor, echoing club-standard CDJ + DJM setup, so you can perform intuitively. Aside from the colour scheme, the jog wheels are updated with “ametallic texture on top and a rubberized coating on the outer ring for improved playability”.So again, I probably need only a 4 deck controller as an interface with Rekordbox and route all the audio with my external audio interface? So, when you want to create a live remix of a track, or simply add some texture to the music, you can scratch with your favorite sounds. The main feature of the DDJFLX6 is the ability to mix between genres, which is instant these days with more and more music being sourced via streaming services. VirtualDJ is compatible with the updated unit (licenses available separately), which also offers free use of the rekordbox Core plan and Serato DJ Pro.
