You will support undercover investigations at aquariums and other captive facilities to expose exploitation and to free turtles and other animals from cruel captivity. For us humans, it’s a bit hard to tell one turtle from another so when we rescue them we use a system of coloured fingernail polish markings so that we can track individual health, feeding program and data collection during their time with us.

In some cultures, turtles are prized for their meat and some locals will raid turtle nests for eggs which are considered to be a delicacy. After successfully surviving for over a hundred million years, endangered sea turtles are now under threat of extinction because of human impact on their environment. Rising sea levels combined with increased frequency and intensity of storms is causing damage and destruction of nesting beaches. Your adoption could help support the Galapagos Tortoise Movement Ecology Programme, which looks to understand their ecology and migration patterns.

They serve as an important habitat for much marine life, including sea turtles, providing them shelter and food. Due to the donations received, Loggerhead Marinelife Center was able to release 37 sea turtles, rehabilitate and care for 83 sea turtles and 704 hatchlings; as well as protect and monitor 15,018 nests in 2021.

Over the last few years, the project has had a team of local rangers, field biologists, and volunteers working tirelessly during the egg laying and hatching season, day and night, to protect the turtles.Your adoption directly benefits the continued care and treatment of our sick and injured sea turtles. Every year over 250,000 marine turtles drown by becoming entangled in fishing lines and nets that choke the world's oceans. Different species of sea turtles have different diets that vary from strictly herbivore to completely carnivore and many turtles will eat almost anything. For example, leatherback turtles that breed and nest in West Papua, Indonesia swim across the Pacific Ocean to feed on abundant jellyfish off the coast of California and Oregon—more than 12,000 miles!
